Sleeping so much!

My daughter is12 weeks old and she wakes once sometimes twice in the night. But goes to bed at 9pm and gets up at 6.30-7am. During the day she can only stay up for about 2 hours max and she's ready for a nap. Anything over that she's over tired and crying. She's eating fine. Is this normal or a growth spurt or do I just have a baby who likes her sleep?GrinGrin X

Sounds normal to me, my DD was the same. Make the most of it, when she starts to drop the naps you might miss the quiet time Smile

My DS is the same, he is 16 weeks though. Goes to bed between 8-9pm, wakes anytime after 6.30am, 2 hour nap when back from the school run, feed, he has just gone down for another nap now that I usually have to wake him from for the second school run, then will have maybe another 1 or 2 small 30-45 minute naps before bed time.

He sleeps soundly of a night but his daytime napping can be a bit hit and miss - seems to have days were he is constantly losing dummy and I am up and down like a jack in the box all day but then at night he is fine Hmm

As above - enjoy it! No such thing as too much sleep for a healthy baby imo Smile

Being up for only 2hrs at a time sounds normal to me. I came across this website, and my baby so far seems to follow these timings. My baby is 9 weeks now, but I am still exhausted all the time even though he sleeps a lot Grin.

My DS needed to nap every 90 mins-2 hours until he was almost 5 months old, he just got very overtired and stimulated and wanted a rest! He wasn't the type to just grizzle a bit, he was sobbing and eye rubbing so he really wanted his sleep. It'll change a lot, at 4 months he did many many 30-45 min cat naps, then at 6 months started to do 3 naps, and now at 8 months is down to two 90 min naps a day. That's still a nap every 3 hours or so, (up around 6-7am, nap between 9-10 until around 11, nap at around 2 until 3.30-4, then bed at 7.30-8pm). So it's totally normal for a much younger baby to need sleep every two hours.

Sounds normal. All babies are different in the amount of sleeping they do and the patterns.

I used to worry when mine was smaller that she was sleeping too much and how would she learn how to roll over, sit up, eat, talk etc etc when she was asleep so much! She just gradually came out of her newborn sleepy shell though and now she is doing all of the developmental things she should be with no problems and she doesn't like to nap as much during the day - I have to work hard to get her down during the day now.

I'd say don't worry about how much baby is sleeping and just try to enjoy the peace for now as it might all get a lot more hectic soon.
