Lying to your child

I'm interested to know how much honesty is important in our daily lives. Would you lie to your child? Presumably we all do when it comes to things we think they won't understand or aren't ready to understand but I'd be interested to know what sort of things you have said to hide/bend the truth and how you feel doing it?

I lie to my children all the time:

"Of course we haven't got any chocolate!"
"We haven't got enough pennies for the ice-cream van."
"The park and softplay is closed today, sorry."
"Peppa Pig has gone to bed now. Kids' tv is finished."

Sometimes it's easier than trying to explain the truth or to give them an outright 'no'*. I don't feel at all guilty.

I also lie to them about Santa, the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny because... I just do.

*Disclaimer: I do say no to my dc; they do have firm boundaries and I do assert my authority as their mother. Sometimes I just tell them little white lies because it's easier than dealing with a screaming tantrum.
