Dd2 whines and whinges all day long. She's three.
It drives me bananas!
Anybody in the same boat?

Jessica is 2.3 and is exactly the same.

Im at my wits end with her now.... nothing makes a difference.

emkana · 03/11/2006 09:56

My particular fave is when she whinges because she wants something, but has to wait for some reason, and then once she can have it she pouts and whinges that she doesn't want it anymore.

yep... god forbid she has to WAIT for anything.... if it isnt given on demand, she goes into one big style and then when she gets it, doesnt want it.

I love her dearly but my word she tests my patience!

Trouble is I don't have a lot of patience.

My DS1 whines a lot and he is 3.5. We've been after him a lot lately to use his words rather than whinning or going into a tantrum. He has three "strikes" and then he gets a time out. Usually when I say "1" he stops and thinks about what he is doing. And lots of praise helps when he does use his words. It's SOOOO frustrating though!!!

emkana · 03/11/2006 20:09

surely there must be more?

I've had whining at stages from all 4 of mine. Now it's ds3 (2.10) who's the champ. Sometimes it works if I say "Oh, what was that ? If you speak up in a proper voice I'll be able to hear you properly". Anothr strategy is to copy the whining when you answer her; sometimes this makes ds3 giggle so that he's distracted from the whining. But it's VERY wearing I agree, and I'm no maternal fount of patience either.

poppiesinaline · 04/11/2006 11:50

Dont all kids whinge?? DS1 grew out of it at about 4 but DD is still going and shes nearly 7 I am thinking of making her a crown with "Queen of the whingers" on it and I am sure she would wear it proudly.

ejt1764 · 05/11/2006 19:04

have just spotted this thread ... boy, boy it's irritating

DS who's 4, was the master of all whingers, and he still can get the nails-down-blackboard tone at will - I tend to either copy it (makes him giggle, and he then says 'sorry' followed by whatever he said before without scaring the local canines, or I say his name really sharply and say 'whinge, whinge, whinge, whinge, whinge' in the same tone... which tends to have the same effect.

I wish there was a magic switch!

Imafairy · 06/11/2006 11:45

Count me in!!!!

WhizzBangCaligula · 06/11/2006 11:46

DS is 7

He's growing out of it a bit and my automatic response now is "I can't understand you when you talk in that whingey voice, you'll have to talk properly"

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/11/2006 11:47

me please!
ds1 is only 16m and cant talk yet.
just makes a long drawn out whining noise....
aarrggghhhh!

Troutpout · 06/11/2006 12:43

oh dear god...me too
dd is 3 and drives me absolutely nuts

Potties · 06/11/2006 15:06

I´m in. My DD drives me mad, It´s thoroughly unpleasant to live with her sometimes.

Troutpout · 06/11/2006 15:57

Mine follows me around the house whinging ... It's like the background sound to my life.

Beabea · 06/11/2006 16:02

Yep she is only 2 and it drives us mad. We sometimes know what she wants but want her just to say what it is and not whinge. It doesnt sound good if we have years more of this. Its as if she can't express herself if she is too tired or something.

I'm in!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 06/11/2006 16:03

i had enough!!!

she got put in the travel cot in the spare room and is now sleeping.

all hell will break lose tonight when she refuses to go to bed, but i couldnt stand it any longer!
