7 month nappy change nightmares

7 month DD has recently started getting very upset during nappy changes. It doesn't happen with every nappy change, but at least a couple of times a day. She'll cry and shout, refuse to lie on her back, thrash about and roll. It is completely impossible to put a nappy on her when she's like this.

Any tips on how to handle this? For others who've experienced this, how long did this phase last?

DD started doing this at 7 months, still going strong at 13 months Hmm
Have do you react to her doing this?
This is sometimes hit and miss but I sing nursery rhymes to her whilst changing and giving her a soft toy to play with

Have you tried changing the nappy with baby on your knee? A friend demonstrated it when DD was a similar age and now that she's a year old I'm still doing it this way.

I can only find this you tube clip, which features a much older child but it's exactly the same thing with a baby of any age. The only difference is that I tuck the (outer, clean part) nappy under the baby's bottom if the contents are more explosive.

Tis quick and easy and you have more control over baby.

If you don't like this suggestion, have you tried giving her something to play with eg keys or an old remote control or something else like that - something she loves to grab which usually you take from her?

They're my two suggestions for this age.

Good luck!

Ugh. Yes. My DD does this all the time. Even when shes done a super crap thats gone up her back...Hmm My solution is either music channels or find a channel with adverts. It works long enough to clean her up and throw a new nappy on.

Little rays of sunshine they areGrin

Yes my daughter does this. Sometimes she is happy on her front, so I just put the nappy on upside down! Or I sing nursery rhymes to her.

A toy for each hand.
Put change mat on the floor, sit sideways on to the baby and extend one leg gently over their tummy - you don't pin with your full weight or anything, but just so they can't turn over. Change nappy whilst singing! i had to do this from 9-15mo.

I change my son over my knee, dead easy once you get used to it :-)

mrsmugoo · 01/04/2015 21:38

Exactly the same here - I have a treasure box by the changing mat for distractions and entertainment!

Argh is like to know too! Having an absolute nightmare with each nappy change. 9 months here. Tried over the knee but didn't work. He flips and wriggles and is so strong, it often takes two of us to do it...

Changing on your knee is easy, you just have to be firm and show the child who is in charge.

I change like that everytime with my son, if he doesn't behave I simply keep him held down and make it clear he's not getting off my lap till the nappy is on.
