Is this cluster feeding?

Hi all, am after a bit of advice please, as usual!

My triplets (born 33wks, now 6wks old, formula-fed) are now fairly steady at 4-5hrs between feeds. But one of the girls tends to wake up just an hour or two after her evening feed, hungry again. The rest of the day she manages 4-5hrs every time, this only happens after the evening feed which is some time between 8pm and midnight. She drops off again eventually but only if laying on my chest (where she is right now!) so I'm not sure if it's real hunger (seems pretty real, she does all the rooting moves) or just wanting comfort. And if it's real hunger, is it cluster feeding (meaning she wants to sleep longer overnight) and so should I feed her? Will she never sleep through the night if I don't give her this extra in the evening?

Advice much appreciated!

The advice fir fling is just the same as Bfing, it's to feed on demand. If such a young baby wants milk and a cuddle, I'd just give it and not worry. These newborn days go so quickly. However, I would try her with milk in the day after 4 hours. 5 hours is an awfully long time without food in the day and if she is doing stretches like that, you want them at night preferably.

Congratulations too Smile

Sorry about the typos Blush

Thanks for reply JJJ! It does feel a bit mean trying to placate her when she wakes, though a cuddle usually does the trick quickly. Everything's done with one eye on what the individual baby needs and the other on what's best for the 3 together - and having them all feeding at diff times so me and dh basically never sleeping, is prob not great for them overall! It's all feeling a bit hard today - everything feels worse on a grey Sunday I know but I just feel like I'm doing a rubbish job atm and don't have the energy or brain to remedy anything! Bleurgh!

You are doing amazingly well, in fact 3 times better than I did with my first. You are right, everything does seem worse on a grey Sunday but soon the spring will be here and you will be able to get out with them a little more or send DH and sleep Thanks

Ah thank you for the encouragement! I've tried giving her a little feed when she had her kick-up just now, but it hasn't got her back off to sleep, so here I am again with her dozing on my chest! Will try a slightly bigger feed next time! All trial and error I suppose!
