Just curious really, I feel like DS sleeps an awful lot, and I wonder if it's causing him to be so unsettled at night.

Here's our day:

7am: BF
7.30-9: DS falls asleep
9.30: breakfast
10-12:playtime/an activity (or DS sometimes just falls asleep)
12.30: lunch
1-2: whatever errands need done/ or general play
2-4/5: DS is usual so exhausted he falls asleep again
5.30: dinner
6.30: bath
7.30: BF then bed.

DS usually falls asleep very quickly and will sleep solidly for maybe 3-4 hours. After this, he is very very unsettled, cries perhaps every half hour, will not self settle. Usually around 2am he wakes up, and ends up co-sleeping with DH and myself after around an hour of being wide awake, thinking it is playtime and being in a hysterical state at the thought of going back into his cot (which is still in our room so I don't think there is a chance of separation anxiety). He usually BFs back to sleep.

How does your day go? Is DS my sleeping too much during the day?

Hi dd 8 months day goes one of 2 ways:

Usually:
7am milk
8am breakfast
9:30-11:30 nap
12 lunch
1:30-3:30 nap
3:30 milk
5:30 dinner
6:30 bath
7 milk and bed

OR

She'll do a similar day but with 3 naps for a shorter a amount of time (morning, lunchtime and then 1 between 3:30-4:30)

She generally sleeps 7-7 with one wake up at around 3 am which she feeds and goes straight back to sleep. She has slept through the last 4 nights but have just weaned on to her formula over the last 10 days so don't know if that is related at all. One thing that made a huge difference to her sleep was putting her in her own room at 5 months as dh and I were disturbing her even just by breathing and turning over in bed!

My not quite 8mo DD
8am feed then breakfast.
10am 45 mins nap
12pm feed then lunch
1.30 45mins nap
4pm feed
6ish 45mins nap
Dinner if she isn't sleeping (we are doing blw, not quite up to 3 full meals)
8pm feed
9ish bed

This is totally generalised. Sometimes she'll have a random double naptime or wake up for a while and then have another 45mins.
She will generally wake up about 2am for a bottle, although has slept without it the past 4 nights. Think that might be increase in proper food though.

She also still sleeps in our room, due to space more than anything else. I think she is also quite good at regulating herself, ie if she has an extra nap it doesn't always throw her out of sync

Dd is almost 9 months but her routine has been similar for a while so I'll share anyway,

Wakes up 6.15/7 if it's nearer 6.15 I leave her for a while she's happy enough to just lie and chat to herself.
7 milk
7.45 breakfast
9/9.30 sleep 45-90 min it varies
11.30 lunch (she's just dropped this feed so just solids)
2 sleep 60-90 min
3 milk
5 tea
6.30 feed then bed
She sleeps 7 til 7

DD2 is just turned 8 mths and is with our nanny 5 days a week but an average day at the weekend is something like this:

6am approx wake up and milk
8am breakfast
9am sleep for approx 1hr (would do longer but have to wake her up to go out)
12 lunch
1pm sleep for approx 2 hrs
3pm milk
5pm tea
7pm milk and bed and will then sleep til 6 ish almost invariably.

She has only recently become able to last 3+ hours between sleeps so can cope with just 2 naps most days. But this is very different to DD1 at this age who seemed to need a lot more sleep. OP, it sounds like your DS may well be making up for poor night sleep in the day time, I fear.
