Hi Tumblemum

We had this when we started potty training ds. Try not to get stressed. Does your ds ask for his nappy?

I gave mine lactulose for 4 days to keep things soft because the withholding made it hard and obviously caused pain and then more withholding. I got him some stickers and once he did his first poo on the potty he got the sticker and lots and lots of praise. This did the trick for us. The main thing is for neither of you to get stressed about it and if he using a nappy for poos, then that is alright, he will eventually get it right. It sounds like he is scared of the pain.

Good luck

BTW. 3 weeks down the line we still give him a sticker for every poo. At first he got a little treat/gift after 7, we are gradually increasing the number of stickers and he hasn't realised what we are doing. He now needs 16 stickers. I know some people don't agree with this method but it worked for us and I think constipation and withholding can cause serious issues.
