Surprising things that babies like to play with?

Hi All,

I have a beautiful DD who is 5 months old and is getting bored of her toys.

Yesterday she played happily with some scrunched up newspaper for a good 15 minutes! Have you discovered any other mundane household bits that babies like to play with?

I see your saucepans and raise you a big pound shop metal bowl. In small doses Grin
My 16mo has his own remote (pound shop again) and his own purse complete with old gift cards etc. Not even slightly interested: he knows when he's controlling the tv now and my purse is way more fun for some reason.

The washing label on anything. 7 month DS will turn everything every which way until he locates that elusive tag and then happily chew it for ages. Even on toys covered in chewy teething bits. Any texture or pattern, certain items of my clothing craze him and he strokes me for ages. Fluffy dressing gowns. He has a fondness for tartan. Silver paper.

My dd also loved her pastry brush from her treasure basket and still plays with it occasionally (she's nearly two).

DS is 15 weeks and is very excited by ribbons, the pulls on hoodies, whisks and baby wipes. x

Baby wipe packets, and any wooden surface!

DS was obsessed with oxo cubes for a while and showed a strong preference for the chicken ones. He never tried putting them in his mouth (unlike most other things), just holding them, taking them out of the box & putting them in again, rolling them between his hands etc.
In DD's treasure basket, her favourite item was one of those shower body puff things.

Seriously, try the silver crinkly survival blanket. Kids love those weird amounts.

DS2 fave toy is a small plastic teaspoon from DS1s teaset. It goes everywhere with him even when hes crawling.

Plastic bottle with pasta is
Plastic fish slice
Magnets on fridges (hours of fun and you can plonk baby in front of fridge whilst you cook)
Stacking cups and fantastic
Shoes
Ribbons
Tablemats
Hairbrushes
Washbags
Purses
Glasses case

Anything really, if your baby is into that.

DS1 wasnt very into objects but DS2 has been a revelation!

The bin, slippers, shoes especially with laces, opening/closing drawer on TV unit, empty cardboard box, straps on bags and things, cables... anything he shouldn't really!
