Just registered on the Natural Sciences degree starting in October. I am ridiculously excited.

Anyone else starting this October?

hI ThisFenceIsComfy Not starting but I'm just coming to the end of Level 1. It's not easy finding the time etc but when I'm into it I love it :) I'm kind of arts and lit but my final module is about the autism spectrum. I have found all the materials incredibly well written and interesting, never dry. I've felt the support is excellent from OU. I've had phone tutorials, evening tutorials, day schools and an art jolly. I would recommend trying to get to as many face to faces if you can as it really helps clarify bits and it's great to meet fellow students from all over the area. One tutor I struggled with but I was really lucky to have another tutor locally so I went to his tutorials too to help me! I even did an exam last year (really stretching the comfort zone!) but that wasn't too bad either.

Lots of luck to you and hope you have lots of fun. I will say - the one thing that scared me was when my first module's books arrived. I felt completely overwhelmed and daunted! But like I say - they make very interesting reading and all the info's there - if yours is anything like mine you're not expected to use any extra materials for level 1.

Also one more thing. Search on Facebook - there's usually a group on there doing the same module - a bit of social and moral boosting when required Smile xx

Just seen this. I'm due to start the BSc Natural Sciences in October too. I'm also ridiculously excited.
Where are you based?

I'm thinking of doing natural sciences (biology route if I get that far). I think I need to get a wiggle on now I've pretty much decided it's what I want. Any pointers on getting the ball rolling I'm so nervous about committing to anything long term....

I'm also considering the natural sciences degree but still unsure where I stand with funding? My partner is a full time student at UEA which complicates it!

Hi, another October starter here Smile

I will be joining level 3 of the BSc(Open) degree. The modules I've picked are - Infectious Disease & Public Health, Adulthood & Ageing, and The Quantum World. I can't wait!!

peachey96 - Have you looked at the OU funding eligibility calculator? It will depend on which part of the UK you live in. I agree, it can be very confusing.

Starting in October too, Computing and IT hopefully going down the Software Development route.

Watching for the postman willing him to deliver my books as I'm itching to get started!

StoorieHoose · 06/09/2015 08:46

Hamiltoes I'm doing Computing and IT too. Done TU100 last year now waiting to start MU123 and TM129

Hamiltoes · 06/09/2015 10:07

Stoorie I'm just about to start TU100, how did you find it? Any tips or things I should know?

StoorieHoose · 06/09/2015 10:25

it was okay - however a lot of reading and writing! It is designed to get you back into the swing of studying so lots of stuff about note taking, active reading etc. It was good for me cos it's been decades since I was at school!

Sense programme is fun - my 9 year old picked it up quicker than me mind you :).

I found the last couple of months didn't really hold my interest and probably didn't do as well on my end of module assessment as I should have done but it's a good first module.

Don't be scared of moving ahead of the timetable - yes there are bits you need to do with people from your module group but no harm in getting a bit ahead
