Ds3 is 3yo and I swear he doesn't want to do anything but play trains or watch TV (or play on computer). It's so BORING. It's not that I don't have ideas of other things to do - we have lots of craft activities, simple games like dominoes etc, tea set, shops, I've offered baking, painting etc and he will occasionally comply but it's always a battle. Ironically, I think he is bored as well but is unwilling to try anything different. Wwyd?

You may have tried this, but have you tried the 'invitation to play' approach?

You don't verbally suggest activities, but just put one or two appealing things out within reach for the child to discover for themself. So maybe the tea set set out on the floor while he's watching tv in another room. Or the domino box open on the carpet in his room.

My two can be total pickles for getting into a rut- but the appeal of something just sitting there ready to play with often tempts them.

Hi, I sort of do this - I try to always have paper and pens or crayons strategically placed but at times the very sight of them can send him into a rage and they get thrown across the room Angry. I'm afraid I have just point blank refused to join in this morning and it's a case of if you want my company, we're doing something else, otherwise you can play on your own Blush. Am beginning to sound like a 3 yo myself Blush.
