Morning,

I have a 3 week old ds who, until yesterday, was exclusively breastfed. We decided to move to combine feeding as he is a bit of a 'snacker' and the frequent feeding, coupled with sleep deprivation, was making my already low mood worse (I'm a bit worried about PND but suppose that's another story). Anyway, yesterday he had two bottles- 1 around tea time and 1 before bed. This was so DH could give him them.
However, all through the nite my boobs were in agony- hard and sore, and leaking so much that I had to change twice in the nite. Is this normal? What is the solution?
Introducing a bottle was designed to give me a break but now I'm so sore I can't sleep anyway :(.
Help...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I suffered the same when I tried combi feeding. I found that moving the last bottle up by 1 hour & giving one breast feed just before sleeping (both sides) was really much better for me as it emptied both breasts for the night & reduced engorgement at night. More so coz the baby wakes lesser after a bottle feed & hence even more engorgement!

An sure over time the supply will readjust per your combi feeding but for now you might want to try this?

Yeah I'll try that- thanks for taking the time to reply. I hope it gets better :( xx

How are you getting along? Can I ask if your DC is adjusting well to combi feeding? Mine took to the formula easily enough but struggled to poo next morning. Usually she does 3-4 watery effortless poos in the first half of the day, but with 4oz formula once a day her poo got thicker & sticky & she got all upset until it passed. After a week, she had a day of no poo. I know this isn't unusual for most babies & I wasn't worried but she was so irritable that I was worn out trying to manage her! So I switched back to breast only..she's a happy baby again. But planning to wean her soon - she 5+ months now. Do tell me how yours gets along?
