I spent ages cooking this bubble and squeak to get ds age 8 eating different things instead of fishfingers and mash all the time. He ate one bite and refused the rest. Made me mad. Told him no TV and no biscuits before bed. Mayb I am posting in wrong thread but AIBU to be mad or even trying to intro him new foods???

I don't think you're being unreasonable in trying to introduce him to new foods, but I do think the way you're going about it could use some work.

He ate a bite of the new food. That means he tried it. I'm sure you have tried foods and not liked them. You can't expect him to like everything he tries, nobody does.

Don't make this into a power struggle. You won't win. Yes, it's maddening and frustrating to cook something and have him reject it, but that's going to happen if you're trying to get him to try new foods.

My parents, and probably others of their generation, would say they always ate what was put in front of them. Let's just say that doesn't square with the evidence of what I'm 99.9% certain would happen now if I took them out for a curry...

You punished him for not liking bubble and squeak? Hmm. I hate bubble and squeak.
