How much weight does a prem baby gain typically in the first year

DD was 6 weeks early weighing 4lbs8.
At her lowest weight she went down to 4lbs1
Nearly a year on, she weighs 21lb exactly, but looks so dainty and small for her age. She's a skinny little thing, and looks so small now she's walking.
Is this a good weight gain for her? I've got her review next week, and quite worried about what the hv will say regarding her weight as have had problems feeding her since she was born.

Sorry first baby, and completely neurotic mum Blush

Hi, it sounds like your DD has done so well! My DD3 was born at 35weeks at 4 lbs 14 and at her lowest weighed 4lbs exactly. At 6 months she is over 13 lbs. Most importantly she is alert, strong, very happy and smily and her development seems to be on track so despite the fact that she is much smaller than her peers I am not concerned! Sorry not to be able to offer more concrete advice .

2lbs a month here, every month after due date, spent the year attached to me. So from 2lb 9oz to 26lb 9oz which was always commented on (as in a lot).

Please don't worry OP, they are all different, sounds like she is doing really well.

Have a look at a growth chart - I bet she is somewhere in the middle of normal.

Girlsville Your dd3 sounds like she's doing well Grin DD was deemed developmental behind by my last hv as she didn't learn to sit until she was 91/2 months old, learnt to crawl at 11 months and one week later was taking her first steps. Reckon she was being v.lazy Wink this is why I'm nervous seeing a new hv next week, but I am deffo reassured that you think she's doing well Grin

It sounds fine mine was 5 weeks early and weighed 3lbs 15oz. She's now 16 months and about 17lbs 8oz so she's got a way to go til your baby's weight!

Battling - we delayed introducing solids until 8 months too. Obviously BM was enough for a very hungry baby. She is still always hungry, eats far more than I do most days but at 8 she is 4"7" and a really healthy size.

All aspects of early start (other than a hole in her heart which doesn't affect her) forgotten thankfully.

I still remember worrying like you are though, it is entirely normal, especially with a first baby because you haven't experienced the 'normal' everyone else talks about. Flowers.

She's doing well! My 31 weekers were 12lb at 1 year old. I remember being desperate for them to break the 1 stone barrier!! They are now at 3.6 24 and 26lb. They are pretty skinny but tall so we're having issues to get clothes to fit, leggings or anything without an adjustable waist just falls off.

They are thriving though just skinny Minnies - I do wonder if they had got to term would they be any different or if this is their genetic build. They were 3lb at birth so actually good weights for GA.

Is this a prem stealth boast? Wink That's a great weight gain, OP. According to some charts I just checked, your DD is over 50th centile for her actual age and around 75th centile for her corrected age.

I have massive weight-gain envy, as my DS is around the same weight BUT is 20 months old.

What does your hv say?
