Squeeeeee! After 6 years, a ft job and a little boy I have finally got my doctorate!

It has been a long, hard uphill road involving many late nights, very early mornings and not a few tears. But the support on here has been amazing. So I just thought I would come back to say IT CAN BE DONE and to thank everyone who held my hand when I had wobbles along the way....

Thank you so much. I woke up this morning and it still doesn't feel real.

My lovely DH has given me a lie in with a mug of coffee and the papers for what feels like the first time in YEARS (Usually used 'my turn' at weekends to fit in some extra work, often from 4 or 5am onwards). The sense of sheer relief is just enormous

Good god! Viva is a big one! Congratulations! Flowers

Like the idea rootypig. It may have to be done! Wink

Someone really should do a cartoon version of what its like to try and do a PhD as a mum though. It is SO different from the standard guides. I was trying to swot two days ago with a little one glued to my chest with a raging ear infection who had been up 8 times in the night crying. But my book tells me to:

'Arrange the unconditional support of all around you and drop other responsibilities so you can keep calm and just focus'.

Mwah ha ha ha ha ....

Still in a floaty strange space of disbelief. And very, very tired. How I wish I could have a proper holiday sans kids, just this once....

Congratulations. What a huge achievement.

Congratulations! I passed mine with three beans aged 3, 2 & 2 years old. Many people suggested it couldn't be done with young children but like you, early mornings and late nights become your friend! Takes a while to sink in. Then comes the tiredness followed by the emptiness. I actually came to miss my PhD studies, bonkers I know after all of the hard work and pressure. Now I have no idea how I managed to organise my time lol. Enjoy your rite of passage Dr.

Many congratulations! No corrections - amazing! Very well done. Hope you enjoy your week, and treat yourself (and family).

lougle · 22/02/2015 22:34

Oh well done! It's hard enough trying to do an A level with children, let alone a PhD!

hettie · 12/03/2015 15:32

Oh my god- congratulations.... Am currently sat looking blankly at my discusion chapter (which I promised I would get to my director os studies by next week) wondering how the hell this is ever going to get finished.... I am having a low motivation moment
I too have small children (and work part time) so am limited to evenings and weekends. So bloody hats off to you
