My husband has a stinking cold and i feel that its inevitable that my 6 week dd will succumb to it.

I'm cacking myself to put it mildly.

What should i expect? Any tips for easing her discomfort when it comes about? Old wives remedies? Anything, please just help me prepare for this, if that's even possible!

Saline drops/spray and a book under the "head end" of the moses basket. Little babies sound like little piggies when they have a cold.

Run the shower and go into the steamy bathroom if baby gets really blocked up. Can help with feeding. Put damp towels over the radiator too.

Agree with saline nasal spray/drops before you feed and raising head end of cot/basket for sleep. We would also rub some snuffle babe vapour rub on children's heels although not sure if its recommended for under 3 months. My friend swore by snotsuckers but I never found any need (also - bleurgh!). You may find shorter and more frequent feeds necessary??? Most importantly - she'll be fine, take it easy on you both and try to keep yourself rested and healthy too!

DD had horrible snotty snuffly cold aged 7 weeks and struggled to breathe easily even with towel under her mattress to raise her head and Snufflebabe vapour oil in a bowl of warm water next to her cot. DP and I took shifts to sleep with her upright propped up on our chests which helped. Amazingly I didn't catch it!
