Brushing Teeth

Has anybody got any ideas how I can get my 2 year old to brush her teeth? When she is in the bath she will use the brush on her teeth (although not a good brushing), but the problem is that she wont have paste on her brush.

Just before she was 1 we gave her a toothbrush to play/use in the bath to get her used to the brush and her brother (is who 14 years old and should know better) put adult toothpaste on her brush and gave it to her thinking it would be hilarious to watch her reaction Hmm she screamed the place down and will not have any kind of toothpaste on her brush, if she sees you putting any on her brush she will refuse it.

She will let you brush her teeth for her for about 20 seconds that refuses.

Any ideas for getting her to brush her teeth properly and have paste on them (she wont even have baby paste which is what we were planning on using till her idiot brother pulled that stunt)

Tricks I use with my 2 year old are to get her to clean her toys' teeth and then for them to tell her it is her turn. The other thing she likes is if I ask her if she wants sparkly teeth like...insert favourite character here - ours is Peppa Pig!...then ask her to show me her sparkly teeth at the end and make a big deal of how sparkly they are when she opens her mouth if she has let me clean them. I read somewhere the other day that toothpaste is not that crucial at this age so you shouldn't worry too much about that - it is more important to get food off her teeth so a brush and water is usually fine - but I'm no dentist so I might be wrong!
I think you can also get apps that encourage them to clean their teeth, but my DD isn't really taken by them.

Not sure that adult paste is the problem - we have been using that since the kids first teeth came through, so 4 months?

You only need a tiny smear. What happens if you put it on before she comes in the bathroom?

Or can you find some strawberry flavoured kids paste, with pink color to encourage her?

What about one of those sponge things to chew on?

What happens if you give her a brush while you brush your teeth?

My 18 month old let's me lay her down on her back and give her teeth a good scrub if she is watching to the Aquafresh app on my phone. I'm not really a fan of iPads and apps for little ones tbh but for this works! Basically it's an animation of a dancing/ singing squidge if toothpaste. It lasts got two minutes and really distracts her and let's me get job done! Have you tried letting her put the toothpaste I her brush? Good Luck!

Sorry about all the typos!

Yep aquafresh brush app has helped us too and its free only trouble is the annoying song gets stuck in your head! As for toothpaste could you maybe put the tiniest bit on so she can't really see it? Brushing without paste is better than not brushing at all though

Some really good tips here, thanks everyone. I have tried brushing my teeth at the same time to show her but she still wont let me put any paste on her brush. I think the paste my son put on was a minty one so it burnt her mouth by being too strong. And he put a massive dollop on.

We have tried the peppa pig toothpaste and sparkly ones, she still wont use them. If I put paste on the brush before she is in the bathroom she checks the brush and if she spots any then refuses. I dont think she trusts me!

Will download the app, sounds good.
