Higher railings - toddler bed?

My ds is climbing out of his cot (2.3 yr old). I think he is too little for a bed yet - i dont think it would be safe. He is now refusing to put on his grobag which helped prevent the climbing.

My mum mentioned that toddler beds have higher railings than cots - is this correct?

Toddler beds have no railings.
If he can climb out of a cot he needs to go in a bed. He will hurt himself much less falling out of bed than falling over the bars of his cot.

I wouldn't bother, at two both mine moved to proper beds and had ditched grobags if they fall out they learn not to quite quickly. But I didn't bother with stair gates either.

We just eliminated most hazards - in our case iron grates on victorian fireplaces. They jump on the bed loads which are by the windows but I don't leave the sash windows open without window locks. The day they climbed out of their cots I moved them to beds, I made a bit of a fuss about having a "big boy bed"/ "big girl bed" chose some fun bed linen and they were very happy. I also said that they could chose a special toy to keep them company in bed. Sometimes they nip upstairs to our room. I always leave the door open, then I pop them back into bed.

Yes eliminate hazards in the bedroom and replace cot with a bed

Fwiw my youngest launched self out of cot at 13 months so was in a single bed from then

Transisition was fine, we put the cot mattress in the floor for the first couple of nights in case of falling out (didn't)
