Bed time for 20 month old?

My son has dinner at 5:30pm (Ooops I better get cooking and off Mumsnet!) then plays in his playroom until 7:15pm when he has his supper of Weetabix or porridge. He then goes up to have a bath but by the time he's out the bath, dry, dressed, been read to and had a bottle it's usually way past 8pm. The last week or so he's fussed until about 9pm. I know this is too late.

Im wondering what time your toddler goes to bed? What is your routine?

My son:

Up at 7am
Nap at 1pm - 3pm (is this too long?)
Bed time as stated

Sorry for all the questions, Im a FTM & have recently discovered Mumsnet (amen!)

Thank you Flowers

My 21 month old

Up 6.30
Breakfast 7/8
Lunch 11.30
Nap 12.30 -2 (sometimes longer)
Dinner 4/4.30
Bath (every other day) 5.30
Brush teeth, bedtime story and into bed 6. He quite often sits in bed and looks at books/plays with toys till nearly 7.

Occasionally wakes for a bit at 1.30 but resettles.

As long as it works for you im sure it's fine.

I live in France and my 2yr old goes to bed quite early (7:45) compared to friends but I like it that way as my husband works evenings so it gives me plenty of time to sort the house out, cook and eat in peace!

Her rough routine is:
Wake 7:45
Nap: after lunch for around an hour
Gouter/afternoon snack: 4pm
Dinner: 6pm
Then play/dance! until around 7pm and then bath/wind down time and story in bed.

We have a very very different routine. Up at 6-7, nap at around 11 for around 1.5-2 hours, dinner 5, bath, 5.30, bed 6. Like clockwork. She has always been 'early to bed early to rise' and i cant be bothered to try and change it. If you like your routine i think you should stick to it unless you have any reason to change. I think its quite normal in other countries for kids to go to bed much later than 'normal' for here.

Hi Op, my 20 month old is exactly the same (except he usually gets up at 6-7 - bahhhhh)
Routine
6-7am awake (unless he has been up in the night in which case maybe 7:30)
nap: around 1pm for 1.5 hrs
Afternoon - try to wear him out
Dinner - 6:30
Bath - 7
General farting around and wriggling about in the bedroom
Asleep between 8 - 8:30

Very jealous of people whose kids go to bed early but it just seems he doesn't need as much sleep

I've learnt to live with it - my neice never went to bed before 11pm until she was 4 so I guess I'm lucky

My 19-month old goes to bed at 9 and sleeps til 8. Works for me - I work full time and would barely see him, if his bedtime was at 6. And I enjoy not getting up so early on weekends. At 9, he goes to bed without any faff or complaints.

Typing this as 19 mo DD falls asleep at 20.15 which is her usual time. It wouldn't really be possible for us to get her to bed early as we both work full time and the earliest she is home is 6pm. Our neighbours who are Spanish put their 3 & 5 yr old kids to bed at 10.30pm which apparently works for them. They do complain that that the 5 year is grumpy and over tired a lot though!

DS 18mth

Awake 06.30-07.00
breakfast and milk 08.00 (Home or Nursery)
Lunch 11.30/12.00 ( Then nap straight after for anywhere from 1.5 - 2.5hrs)
Dinner 17.00/17.30
Bath 18.00
The cuddles, reading, singing till 19.00-19.30 then to bed.

If he has a busy day or is at nursery he falls asleep better than if its a day where I have jobs to do or we haven't done very much.

This works for us and he's only just started to sleep through. Does he need the additional meal every night prior to bed? this may be keeping him up later than necessary.

ILoveMyMonkey · 11/02/2015 20:46

In bed by 7:30
Asleep usually by 8
