Washing nappies-what do people do?

Just about to start on a trial kit having never used cloth before. Wrt washing what temperature do people wash at and how often? The bambino mio I have in the kit instructs washing at 60 but the Charlie banana stipulates 40. If I can get away with 40 for all I'd rather do that especially if I'm doing the prewash and extra rinse recommended. Green credentials aren't the main reason for me switching but I might as well try to be as green and cost effective as possible. I have bought some miofresh to help sanitise and ds is on solids so hoping most of the poo will go down the loo!

And how often do people wash? I'm planning on every other day but we've got a couple of weekends away coming up, would it be absolutely vile to go from Friday to Monday? Or damage the nappies in some way?

Thanks for any help!

Hey! We wash at 60 but I have tonnes of nappies so not too worried about the extra wear and tear (I went mad on nappies when pregnant). 40 was fine too but you should wash at 60 during any illnesses. We wash every other day. Occasionally it's a day longer and it's never mattered.

If going away for the weekend I try to put him in a clean nappy say three hours before we leave. Then I wash all the dirty ones, hang them up and travel with just the nappy he is wearing and all the clean ones. Then do a wash on the Sunday when we get home. If travelling to family we normally wash them while we are away.

We wash nappies and wipes at 60 and wraps at 40 with normal clothing.

I wouldn't wash pockets at 60 though, especially not Charlie's as the PUL and elastics get damaged overtime.

I do a cold rinse, 60 wash with powder followed by another rinse.

We wash every 3rd day.

I wash on warm (in NZ) which is our equivalent to 40. I have one in cloth and do the following.
Scrape off poo and rinse fleece liners
Dry pail nappies
Every morning I do a cold rinse/spin
Then using nappy friendly powder I do a warm wash. I add in clothes to that wash because all the poo and wee has been rinsed out already.
When possible I dry in the sun which removes any poo stains.

Hope you enjoy using cloth!
