Screaming two year old and neighbours

Good morning,

My two year old has started having the most appalling screaming tantrums at various time of the night. He has always had a loud scream but at 5am they echo through our semi-detached house and I know it must be affecting next door. What should I do in this situation. I feel like my hands are tied as I can't even leave him for 2 minutes at that volume so the behavior is getting the exact reinforcement he desires. Has anyone got any tips for dealing with two year tantrums while living in close proximity to neighbours? We are shattered (as is he which is not helping his temper)! Thanks for the advice.

I would mention it and apologise. It won't last for ever.

I wouldn't mention it to your neighbours unless they mention it first. Most people who have had children will be tolerant and know its only a phase, if they can hear him at all. If they do mention it simply apologise and tell them you are sure its just a phase and he's still finding his routine.

We have similar. We're in terrace house and DS1 is in box room. Until recently he'd wake at 445/5am every morning crying as though being eaten by foxes. Our neighbours lovely (their kids 10 and 15) but they'd always say things like, "we heard DS1 again this morning! He doesn't wake up happy does he?" They'd say it in a jokey manner and they have kids so They Know but in my exhausted state I once replied with "yes these walls are very thin aren't they, we can hear you shouting at your DS and DD to get ready for school in the mornings! Ha ha ha we have opposite problems...etc"
