Best day to have off work/ nursery

Hi All

Although it is a ridiculously long way off I have to decide which day I would want to take off work/ off nursery (to spend with a baby that's not even yet born!) in order to secure a space for 2016.

What day's do you take? Work would prefer it if I take a Friday off, I would prefer to take a Monday but really it would be down to what's best for the child. Someone mentioned to me there's lots of play dates and stuff on Fridays so I wouldn't want to miss out on that. What do you all think?

I'm taking Wed, and DH is taking Fri. No idea how it is going to work out, but so far it looks like there will be a lot of playdate action happening on Wednesdays. I think these things tend to work out around you.

I have mondays off. Many mums i met on mat leave have fridays off which is annoying but monday is definitely the second most popular day and friday is quieter at nursery which I see as a good thing. I get extra days off in lieu to cover the BHs. No more sinking sunday feeling. I wanted Friday but work couldn't accomodate it and Im pleased how things workdd out.

If you take a Monday off in many organisations you still get prorata bank holiday leave but you don't need to use it for the bank holidays (as they're your off days) so effectively get more leave.

I have Fridays off (I do a compressed week). It works for me as I work a lot with a region that has most of Friday off anyway. My office also really encourages homeworking so Friday the office is often really empty and I like getting the week done with in a chunk. I don't get the phone calls either. DP also finishes early on Friday.
The down side is always missing out on leaving drinks/casual after work stuff, although if it's something special I can come back in for it. I also sometimes have big deadlines on Friday, but I just try to get it done by Thursday...
I meet up with a couple of Nct friends often but don't usually do any formal groups as she gets all that at nursery. Friday seems the most popular day here.

I have Mondays off and it's great.
No Sunday eve blues as I don't work following day and come Monday eve well it's Tuesday already tomorrow, almost half way through the week ;)
Also Fridays very quiet at my work many people have day off/compressed working or work from home so feels like a light day so good day to be in office. Quiet catch up day before three days off.
It's true that most of my NCT friends have Fridays off so I missed out on play dates but the lady I am closest too has Tuesdays off so we just meet at weekend.
Agree with previous poster - I work compressed hrs 5 days in 4 so working out time off in lieu for the bank holidays that I don't work anyway is complicated but HR should work that out for you
