6yr old walking to School alone?

My 6yr old DD wants to walk to School by herself because she is getting teased at School by older children for walking to School with mummy and for holding hands with mummy (these kids are 9).

So, should I let her walk by herself even though that route is dangerous and due to fact she is totally lacking independence?

Omg, any parent who allows their six year old child to walk home alone or even considers it is totally irresponsible! I only started to allow my eldest to walk home when he was in the spring term of year 6 and my 9 year old daughter will be wait of until then too.

Oh and what's wrong with had holding at age six??? My almost 9 year still holds my hand ( infront of her friends ) and she's never experienced "bullying".
