Ranitidine seems to have made reflux worse?

My little one is 10 months, has bad reflux, finally got ranitidine, was really excited about it potentially helping... 2.5 days after starting his reflux is the worst it's ever been. Agreed with doc that we'd stop it, give it a few days, then try again to see if it is that or a random coincidence (doc isn't convinced re reflux and says ranitidine can't make it worse)...

Just wondered if anyone else's DC had reacted badly to it, got worse etc, and if so what else did they give you? What's the other options.

Bit gutted as had really hoped this would solve things.

We saw improvement with it. We went through the dosing levels though. Are you on the lowest dose/highest dose?

Have you changed anything else? Growth spurt? Stopped any other medications?

Made it better for us.

It takes a few days for the effects to properly build up. If no improvement go back and get the dosage adjusted - they tend to automatically start on the lowest possible dose.

If you can, give it about 20 mins before a feed.

It won't necessarily stop the puking but it will or should stop the pain. My twins became very happy pukers on ranitidine instead of miserable ones:)

Nothing else changed I dont think but it was significantly worse 2.5 days after taking it. He's 10 months, weights 10.5kg, and is on 2.5 ml twice a day, not sure whether that's a high or low dose. Not given it to him since fri when he was so bad, going to start again maybe later this week and see if it goes really bad again. Just interested to see what others experience is. Thanks.
