Any student nurses or potential student nurses worried about proposed changes to enhancements?

All this talk of proposed changes to the antisocial hours enhancements is giving me The Fear. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not getting into nursing for the moolah [hollow laugh] but this news is very worrying when the salary is already laughable for the responsibility, hours, pressure and the relentless physical and psychological demands placed (as well as the nice bits, obv!).

This has been in the pipeline for a long time, I know (this ain't my first rodeo, I worked in NHS management for 10 yrs) but is anyone else worrying that their dream clinical career choice might turn out to be a nightmare once qualified? Or is just me wearing my Eeyore head?

I'm worried after doing my first placement where my mentor works a 14 hour shift... No fixed days.
I'm worried how I will find childcare 24 7 days a week on such a crap salary!

If it helps they have been rumbling on about it for years and it's never happened. Although it does feel a bit closer this time due to all the other cuts. I think it would be the straw that puts nurse out to strike tbh

It bloody well should, originalusername. Awful

iniquity that's kind of how it works though unless you are in the community, long shifts and no set days. set days are rare, i have come across people who have early finishes or something for childcare purposes but if everyone did set days then who would do all the crap or Fridays and Saturdays and have no social life? everyone has to take their turn. flexible childcare is essential really.

But yes the pay situation is less than ideal and should take into account the way people work.
