Ewan the Dream Sheep, how do you use yours?

I saw on another thread this being recommended a billion times. My baby LOVES white noise but I don't like the idea of leaving my phone in her crib all night. So I've bought a Ewan and it arrives tomorrow! Yay!

But out of interest, how do you use yours??

We used to use the womb noises to help baby settle through the night but now she's older we use the harp as part of our bedtime routine. We settle in the rocking chair and the harp music plays whilst she has her last feed before bed.

Thank you. I've just read it only plays White noise for 20 mins max. Is there a 'constabt' feature? During the day she needs white noise for a lot longer than 20 mins to stay asleep...!

It doesn't play for very long and get a lot of batteries as to goes through them quickly but I find the harp quite relaxing. I fear ewan might be in my bed when the babies are old enough not to use him!

It does only play for 20 minutes but goes off slowly, not just stopping abruptly. There's an app called sleepy sounds that plays indefinitely. But don't be disheartened Ewan is wonderful, I also fear he'll stay with me after Dd is finished with him.

After DS is dressed ready for bed I take him upstairs for his last feed in bed & put Ewan on - I vary between the womb sound & one of the tunes. Change nappy, put in co-sleeper & off he goes.

It also has a red glow / light which is nice.

As soon as we noticed DS settling into his own routine we started this, maybe at 8/9 weeks.

When he was a tiny newborn & not sleeping at night the womb sound was on constantly !

I use it to keep dd asleep or to calm her pre sleep. My favourite sound is water + heart beat.

moominbabe · 19/01/2015 10:05

We got Ewan when DD was around 5 weeks, and she still has him in her bed at 2.5! We used to start with the rain sounds, and switch to the harp music if she was struggling to settle, it was like magic, can't recommend highly enough. She was fascinated by the red glow.

2.5 years on, only one leg is still working (luckily the harp music one), but if he stops working while DD is still awake she brings him out to us demanding new batteries, then snuggles him in delight once he is back on Smile We are seriously wondering if we need to buy a new one at some point, as he is getting a bit temperamental now, even with fresh batteries, and she loves him so much!

Ewan is amazing. We got one when ds was about 2 months old to settle him to sleep, we use the womb sounds the most. It helped send him off to sleep but never did wake him up when it stopped. He is 1 year old now and I can see us using Ewan for a while longer, not even sure if ds needs it but seems to settle him well for bed time. He slept through from 9 weeks old too! I am now pregnant with our second and he or she will have their own Ewan too :)

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 19/01/2015 13:50

When she was smaller (2- 6 months ish) we used to switch it on when we heard her stirring in her Moses basket and she would usually settle back down for another hour or so if she wasn't hungry. She's 14 months now and still use it when putting her down for a nap/bed, but use the harp music now rather than the white noise, so it's a sleep association tool now.

soundsystem · 19/01/2015 21:35

We use it as part of our bedtime routine: after feed and story, Ewan goes on (the womb noise one) and the lights go off. Have turned off the red glow though - found it a bit freaky. I admit I occasionally use it as a bit of a baby snooze button - if dd wakes up in the night and grizzles a bit I might pop him back on and buy myself another 20 minutes of sleep...

Givemecaffeine21 · 20/01/2015 14:00

I have Ewan but I also have a Bella the Butterfly / Freddie the Frog which has 6 'tunes' I think, one is just White noise, another is nighttime sounds like owls hooting etc, and I use that for every nap and sleep time. It goes on for at least 30 mins. It also has just white noise, and it projects stars on the ceiling tho I never use those as they kept mine awake staring at them!

Vanillaradio · 20/01/2015 14:36

Yeah we have Freddie the Frog. 14 month old DS has to have the music and stars every night, if the stars are not put on he will cry and point at the ceiling and he is always asleep by the end of the tune! We also have Ewan and I had high hopes for him however when DS was tiny he was absolutely terrified of Ewan and used to pull away and scream whenever the poor sheep came near him! He still doesn't really like any of the noises except the harp sound which we sometimes have on for nap time! I guess my baby is just odd as everyone else I know who has Ewan seems to love him!

Annarose2014 · 20/01/2015 14:44

Harp during last feed, and his eyes steadily close. Then I keep it on for another couple of cycles just to be sure, but generally switch to the swish-swish noise. Also pop it on in the middle of the night to resettle. I don't think it needs to be any longer, really. I don't want him to be unable to sleep unless there's white noise all night long.

I may turn off the red glow though - its a bit bright.

Firsttimeyummymummy · 20/01/2015 14:49

We use the Left back leg! Gets LO to sleep/nap everytime, it's fab! Could do with a travel one for nursery! Wink

Mamia1552 · 20/01/2015 16:49

Ewan is amazing....he even makes me drowsy...not that I need much help falling asleep with a 4mo!!
My only 2 quibbles are that 20 min sounds are not long enough and you can't wash him! Ours is still white-ish but the day is coming when he will be manky and grey and then what do I do?
