7 yo with child wrist strap

Does anyone think it's silly to put my dd on a wrist strap when just me and her go to London for the day on Saturday?

Do you usually put a wrist strap on her? What do you think might happen?

Does she have additional needs?
Otherwise I'd say that you are being over-cautious and ask you how you think she'd react to it.
How about wearing a scarf or a coat she can hold onto if she needs the reassurance?

No I don't. It's my husband he's worried I'll lose her ??

Are you used to travelling in London?
The thing with tubes is not to panic and rush, there will be another one along in a minute. Take your time, wait until you are both ready to get on.
I've taken a classsfull of 7 year olds on the tube numerous times, no wrist straps, no lost children.
Your DH is being a panicker.

Unless there are other factors, then no I wouldn't use a wrist strap.
I'd hold her hand when in a crowd, regularly remind her what to do if the two of you get separated, and enjoy the day!

I always give my 7 year old a bit of a talking to before we go anywhere crowded about the importance of staying close and being sensible, and what to do if he can't see me. That should be enough at this age.

At that age I used to hold dd's hand when it was crowded, she wore a bright hat, scarf or coat/jumper. I put a card in her pocket or I wristband with emergency mobile numbers and we had a plan about what happened if one of us got on/off the tube and the other didn't.

Only lost her once in the supermarket when she was much younger. She is a bit spirited and doesn't listen and come when I tell her to but I plan on holding her hand all the time.
No we are not near London so don't use the tubes but I get the gist.

What shall I do if we lose each other?
I can't tell her to tell just anyone she's lost

Is it worth getting your DD a very basic PAYG mobile and putting your number in it, just in case?

She should definitely know what she should do if she gets lost.

I wanted a wrist strap when I last went on the tube. It terrifies me. I wanted to hold the hand of my friend I was travelling with.

My god! I have a 3 yo who travels with me on the tube and I've never had her on a wrist strap. Firm hand hold and perhaps a note in her pocket with your name and number in case you get separated. Ensure she knows to go to ticket office/ shop assistant to raise alarm if she loses you. Hardly rocket science.

Tell her the same as you would anywhere else she might get lost.
My friend used to write her mobile number on her DS's arm in sharpie.
You won't lose her, you will stay calm and reassuring and in charge.

It CAN be quite daunting for SOME of us

If I'm ever going anywhere extremely crowded with my 3 Dcs I write my mobile number on their arm. I've told them when on the tube if they get stuck on the platform, stay still against the wall, if they get stuck on the tube get off at the next stop and then stay still against the wall. That way I can either get off at the next stop and go straight back for them or get on the next train to go get them!

Yup, and if you do start feeling panicky stop and have a breather.
Look at the underground map and follow one of the coloured lines, if a train is crowded, wait for the next one.
If you are nervous, make it a rule that she has to stand with her bum against the wall when on the platform, so you are away from the edge. Look at how bored the regulars are, it's so safe they are in neutral whilst travelling.
