When do babies stop randomly crying

At what age do babies stop the random bouts of crying ie. When does it become more obvious what they are actually crying for and does it lessen. I pick my baby up each time he cries so he's always comforted immediately but it's pretty tiring and I just hoped the crying may lessen over time

How old is he? I never found mine cried for no reason really, though often the reason was needing to be held. You might he's happier in a sling or swing.

Gets a lot easier when they start to talk or drag you to food/toy etc they want. Then you get more of an idea what is going on with them and can sometimes pre-empt the crying. Generally they are less frustrated the more they can communicate.

It is hard work dealing with a lot of crying, hang on in there.

Things got a bit easier for me at 7/8 weeks. I can't say I can tell a massive difference between her cries except that when she's tired she fights it and her cry sounds more whiney. Her hungry cry is more urgent. She still randomly cries occasionally, and I have to try the old feed/nappy/cuddle/dummy/change scene/quiet room/noisy room/go outdoors/try sling/try play mat/white noise/start again routine!

But mostly now she follows a cycle or sleep-wake-feed-play-feed-sleep so I can kind of predict what comes next. (Most of the time anyway)

Depends on the baby, surely? Perhaps not helpful but my baby honestly did not cry at all for the first 3 months, then only for hunger. At about 6 months he 'woke up' and started having preferences (the odd tantrum!). Now at 12 months he cries getting dressed, getting in the carseat - anything involving restraint.
If you're talking about an older baby maybe try baby sign? We've learnt very little but 'enough' is a good one, so he stops eating when full.

Maybe he wants to be held. Babies need to be held. Nothing wrong with that.
