when to start potty training

hi, i was just wondering if 18 months is too young to start trying with the potty. My Ds is 18 months, whenever hes about to poo he tells us and then repeatedly says poo until he is changed.
The other day he was sat naked before his bath, he suddenly said "poo" and then wee'd.
Also if he doesnt have a nappy on and wee's he gets our attention and points to it saying "wee wee"
He does sit on the potty (mainly when he is dressed) and knows what it is for.

Should i just continue with this and am i right in thinking that potty training, once started, needs to be continued?

Any advice welcomed, thanks.

he is very young sill but it can be done, just keep the potty around so he gets used to it and ifhe says poo or wee offer him the potty but dont force him on it. My daughter self trained at 21 months i was very unprepared for it as i thought it was impossible and way to young, now she's 2.1 and she is very very reliable. She still in nappies for bed but i dont expect her to be dry at night for some time.

My mum says that I refused to have a nappy put on me at 13months as my older sister was not wearing them anymore and I wanted to do everything she did.

She gave up trying and resigned herself to having to clean up the mess and apparently I was dry from then!

If he knows what he is doing then I would def go for it. I cant wait til DS is out of nappies. If you try now and he doesnt like it you can always give it a break and try again when he is a little older.

Lindster - you can try potty training for a few days and if it doesn't work out, wait a month or so and try again. I know some babies who are dry from the age of one. It is possible.

A boy at ds' M&T group was dry at that time. He sounds like he might be ready. Give it a whirl and see what happens.
