Hi,

I'm after a bit of advice...

My 7 week old ds has developed a nasty cold and cough courtesy of his big sister! He seems to be handling it like a little trooper but I'm not sure if I should be worried. He usually has about 5oz every 4 hours but he's been having about half that and sometimes being a little sick with it. Today he has slept most of the day. Awake for probably an hour and a half all day. My ds was never poorly at this ages, so I don't know what is normal and when I should get concerned...

Does he have a temp? Is he still having wet and dirty nappies?

Is his fontanelle sunken?

Its always best to err on the side of caution with little babies as they can go downhill quickly.

If you are concerned get him checked out, a Dr will be more than happy to check him out.

No temp and his fontanelle isn't sunken. Plenty of wet nappies but no dirty ones yet.

I feel like a hypercondriact as I was on the phone to 111 a few times last weekend with ds before I rang and got them to listen to her struggling to breath for them to send an ambulance and then they finally give in and gave her antibiotics for a chest infection. I have a feeling 111 will only give me and out of hours appointment if he has a temp.

When he's awake he's his usual smiley self. He keeps waking up have a look around and then nodding off again.

Always get little babies checked out. I know what you mean about 111, I had a stroppy cow shouting at me last weekend when I called about my 10 mo. Anyway finally got an ooh appointment and he had tonsilitis.

If you are even a tiny bit worried get him seen. If the gp says he is fine then you can relax
