HOW do you cut a 2 year old boy's hair?

Without stabbing him in the eye or cutting an ear off?

I have in the past restrained him while DH got busy with the clippers but it was awful and we vowed never to do it again.

He's getting girls hair now! Lovely and blonde but he's a boy!

take him to a place that does kids hair.

DS2 used to hate having his hair cut so much that I used to do it whilst he was asleep!!!

I'd cut one side, roll him over and do the other. Then carry him into our bed so that I could vacuum his bed!

Some interesting 'styles' evolved, but at least it got it over and done with.

Now he's 8 he loves the barber's, and spends ages getting his hair perfect using gel!

You get a Thomas video, prefereably one he hasn't seen before, and sit him in front of it while you do the business

kitbit · 08/10/2006 18:59

yup, video and something to distract eg small brightly coloured plastic toy from pound shop, wrapped up. When video loses appeal bring on the present, it'll take a while to open in and then play with it and then of course it can be his reward for "being so good with the haircut"!

MamaGhoul · 08/10/2006 19:01

I doubt it will work, he is VERY strong willed but I'll certainly try the distraction method, thank you

I have taken him to the hairdressers and he was hysterical so thats out. Thanks though

You don't. You let it grow longer and longer and learn to not mind when little old ladies admire your "dd's" lovely locks.

MamaGhoul · 08/10/2006 19:05

LOL - I do mind though

He's starting to look like Goldilocks

My ds3 is 3 and a half and is still a nightmare to take to the barbers - no way we could attempt it ourselves although we used to do ds1 and ds2's hair. I don't want to depress you, but your Goldilocks could end up being a Rapunzel!

2Babies0Bumps · 08/10/2006 19:30

ds1 is 15months and i have managed to trim some hair from him once. he is so nosy he wants to know what i am doing.
he looks like a little beatnik atm.
so cute...

kitbit · 08/10/2006 19:32

or if you want / don't mind a one length short crop all over buy a pair of clippers and "let him help". Better still let him do daddy's hair first then he might be more willing! Hard isn't it.

MamaGhoul · 08/10/2006 20:11

Ive tried the clippers

Honestly, he's so terrible! Gonna have to rename him Rapunzel I think

Bribery. DH managed to give ds a lovely haircut aged 2.3 for 3 squares of chocolate. He later realised he had missed abit and told ds who practically jumped into the chair to earn himself abit more.
