Yesterday my 13 week old DS was sitting on my lap smiling away when he suddenly started coughing in the middle of spitting up

He was then gasping for breath looking at me in a panic and couldn't breathe.

I swung him on his tummy and over my knee and smacked his back sharply 5 or 6 times.

I picked him back up and finally he was breathing again.

I thought he was going to die. My heart was racing and I was shaking all over.

Cue emergency visit to the docs to diagnose reflux.

I've hardly slept tonight, waking up even when he wasn't waking, I've just woke up now to him coughing and I've launched myself at his cot in a panic again.

He's dry coughing and sounds congested and mucousy. The doc checked him out, chest temp etc and said he cant find anything out of the ordinary.

I'm so scared its going to happen again although the doctor said it's extremely rare for this to happen in the first place.

Any tips on how to get the mucous out? I seem to remember hearing something about putting vapour rub in socks?

I don't want to go back to sleep now just in case Sad

Oh Amp, you poor thing!

Things that have helped us when DC has been snotty:

Raise head of the Moses basket
Vaporub on feet
Humidifier
Eucalyptus or snuffle babe in an electric oil burner

Friends have also used breastmilk or saline up the nose. A snot sucker device

I remember when DC was about 4 months old & vomited in her sleep. I thought I would never sleep again

Congratulations on your DS & I hope you find a solution soon
