Well there had to be one...
Thought I might as well start it at Fennels suggestion.
You have all read enough from me how about you?

re new april babies thread , feel like am @ school or graduateion camp or something and now the new class is coming up , what a strange thought !

dot1 · 08/08/2004 20:53

ooh - lovely moment today! ds1 (who's 2.5) talked to ds2 for the first time! I told him something and he crouched down next to ds2 who was in his car seat and relayed it to him!!! I'm so pleased, 'cos ds1 has had some difficulties accepting this screaming little thing into our lives (haven't we all at times?!), but very recently has started wanting to go into his room to see him when he wakes up, and today was his first real acknowledgment that ds2 exists and is worth talking to!

spots · 08/08/2004 22:49

We chickened out of camping . Ended up in the laps of some hospitable friends and it was too cushy to give up...But Fennel will be getting nice and roasted prob. as it's lovely up there right now. Fennel, when you get back, I salute you and your purple campervan! Where did you go?

Sorry to keep lumbering in here but I also love peeking at all your babies and their grownup achievments! I always used to read the month ahead in the pregnancy books too...does that make me a pesky tagalong?!

Hi all (esp. GeordieVik and spots - all welcome!). Have you been swimming yet GeordieVik? Metrobaby, how did the christening go? My ds was 5 yesterday and we had a party at home - had 15 children here (aged between 6 weeks and 6 years old), plus assorted adults. Phew! Went very well though, despite the heat.
DD seems to have chilled out a lot recently - crying less, easier to look after - so kbaby if you're still looking in on this thread, hopefully things will get better for you soon (if they haven't already).
Nice moment with your dss dot

dot1 · 09/08/2004 19:53

Another lovely day! Honestly, things have just turned around since we started weaning ds2 - he's so much happier, and eating like a horse...!

We went swimming today - first time for ds2 and he loved it! lots of squealing and giggling - very sweet indeed!

GeordieVik · 10/08/2004 12:33

thanks for the welcome hewlettsdaughter, no we haven't been swimming yet, am sort of plucking up the courage to take him...

hewlettsdaughter · 10/08/2004 17:46

DS always had one of those float suits (swim suits with polystyrene floats inserted inside) before he learned to swim (well, be confident in the water). I can't remember what age those suits start from though. DS did an 'aquababies' class and then a 'ducklings' class at the local swimming pool - the teacher there advised against the use of armbands (although lots of people do use them). You can get floating baby seats too - have you seen them? (they're usually yellow).
I haven't taken dd swimming yet.

MrsDoolittle · 10/08/2004 21:30

The weather has been so gorgeous recently that I have just not got around to logging on. I should have though - reading this thread would have spared me all those anxious days I have had recently about weaning dd. Honestly, she has just gone 17 weeks and there was no way I was going to beable to bf exclusively for any longer!! I have been beating myself up about it for ages now, but I should have read this and spared myself. Dd is eating now, most definately carrot, banana, anything that outs itself on a teaspoon. She just wouldn't settle on my breast any longer, screaming and thrashing about - such a palava! I was expecting weaning to be a long, laborious process but no way. Dot, you describe it very well!! She just sits in her bouncer flapping her arms and legs like a little bird, mouth wide open waiting for the spoon - no problem. I heldback a little yesterday thinking I was feeding her too much but I paid for it last night when she woke up at 1am this morning chewing on her hands. She had emptied me for her usual feed at 6am, so I had to get and give her banana to settle her!
Hi Goerdievik and bluecow. Anyone know anymore about chonky and her little baby? I have been thinking about her.

hewlettsdaughter · 11/08/2004 11:40

MrsD, chonky posted this thread at the end of July.

dot1 · 11/08/2004 20:53

Mrs D - I think you did well getting to 17 weeks!! ds is now having cereal with 6oz of milk and banana for breakfast, then 6 large ice cubes of carrot/sweet potato for lunch, mixed with baby rice and milk, then 6 cubes of pear/apple again mixed with baby rice and milk for tea! Plus his usual 9oz bottles at each mealtime and at night..!! But he's just sooooo happy - although he wanted more pear tonight - can't believe we'll have to contemplate 7 cubes soon - can't keep up the cooking with his appetite!

The best thing is that as ds2 calms down, ds1 is getting to like him - just wonderful! I'm sure this peaceful happy period won't last, or will change soon, but I'm enjoying it at the moment and it makes me feel a bit easier about going back to work..!

hewlettsdaughter · 12/08/2004 08:56

6 cubes - wow, dot! I'm not feeding dd solids yet - waiting for the signs though. She was a bit grumbly and dribbly on Monday - was wondering if it could have been teething?

dot1 · 12/08/2004 19:29

I'm wondering about this aswell - ds2 is dribbling like mad and trying to bite on everything - can't be hunger any more, so maybe it's teeth?! This teatime he had to have a second course - mashed banana with milk - loved it!!

Metrobaby · 13/08/2004 19:20

wow dot - your ds sounds like he has a fantastic appetite.

Ds is now 16 wks but I haven't weaned him yet either. He is still going happily 3-4hr between feeds and only wakes up once between 7-7 for milk.

Thanks for asking about the christening HD. It went well. All the guests and kids had a great time. ds was fantastic in the limelight and throughly enjoyed being cuddled by various people all day. I however, was quite stressed by the whole experience having to cater for so many, and had DH's family staying over too. Glad its all over now. I'm only just getting the house back in shape.

dot1 · 15/08/2004 20:42

Welcome back Fennel! How did the holiday go? Hope it was more relaxing than stressful (apparently that can be the case sometimes with chidren - not that we've experienced it yet..!).

Ds seems to be calming down with his eating now - phew! I think he was just catching up, and is now eating a steady 3 meals a day - about 5/6 ice cubes, and slightly less milk. I've stopped breastfeeding now . Trying not to think about it, as I really miss it, and get all emotional when I think back to the lovely early days of lots of feeds... But he's almost sleeping through now without a feed - going until 5am - 6am and then just having a v. quick comfort feed - a few minutes - so it's really all over.

Still, at least I did it for his first 4 months, and I start back at work in 4 weeks so it was inevitable...

MrsDoolittle · 16/08/2004 10:29

Gosh, that was quick dot! We haven't got anything close to a routine as such. Somedays was really hungry, other days she wasn't - so I just feed her banana or carrot when she seems to need something more. I'm still breast feeding 4 times a day and haven't yet figured how I am going to deal with things when she goes to nursery - I think it's denial!
I have just come back after a couple of weeks close to my parents. It's been great as we have had babysitters every evening and some days. Dd has loved the attention from everyone including two aunts and an uncle!
I got some 'tiny tums' bumpf through the post today - the weaning issue. Anyone else seen it?

Hope you had a good holiday Fennel and some nice weather.

Anyone else weaning yet? I am soo disorganised. I think there is a part of me that doesn't want it to happen. Am I strange?

I was wondering of Fennel and Dot have met up yet?

Fennel · 16/08/2004 10:59

hi all

Back from holiday which was actually pretty crap despite excellent weather. Camping with small children - exhausting and grim (as I expect everyone else already knew but we kept trying). dd3 was fairly perfect but dd1 and dd2 wakeful, naughty, tantrummy, tired, grumpy etc. We have bitten the bullet and are selling our beloved VW van.

I am also wondering how Chonky and dd are getting on.

Mrs D - dot1 and I are meeting on Thurs. we can spill the beans then on whether we are totally different to how we seem!

dd3 has grown massively these two weeks away, she fed very frequently and exhaustingly, but we were 50 miles from the nearest shop which sells formula so she didn't get to have any and I had to just keep feeding. now she is big and bouncing, quite a different baby.

I'm not planning to wean yet but she is sleeping better than ever so don't feel any need yet. will see how we go in the next few weeks.

hewlettsdaughter · 16/08/2004 16:41

Sounds like the christening was a success, Metrobaby. Hope you have recovered by now! Sorry your holiday wasn't so great, Fennel. Where has your VW been over the time you have had it? (sorry, thinking about that will probably make you feel worse about selling!).

My dd had her 16 week injections last Friday - she had a worse reaction than she did the other two times (I ended up giving her Calpol for the first time on Friday night - although most of it ended up on her sleepsuit!)

hewlettsdaughter · 16/08/2004 16:43

PS MrsD - I don't think it matters if you're not in a routine with solids straightaway. At this age the main thing is for them to try different (appropriate) foods and for it to be a pleasurable experience when they do!

LucyJones · 16/08/2004 16:58

Hi everyone. My ds is 20 weeks now. I too have started weaning but only really experimenting. Today ds had some Cow and Gate Pear and Apple (anyone else using jars when nothing in house?!) for brekkie and 3 ice cubes of carrot and sweet potato but yesterday he only had a bit of mashed banana so not in a routine either. His little face all screwed up in disgust at baby rice was hilarious At the moment he's sleeping around 6.30pm/7pm to about 5.30am but I leave him until 6am as can't face getting up when the clock says 05.anything!

LucyJones · 16/08/2004 16:59

P.S. He rolls over on to his front now but can't get himself back yet which gets a bit exhausting!!

hewlettsdaughter · 16/08/2004 17:11

Lucy - my dd has just rolled onto her front for the first time this afternoon! (of course, I was out of the room, answering the door...)

LucyJones · 16/08/2004 17:15

That's typical isn't it

peachypie · 16/08/2004 21:59

hello to all,my dd is now 17 weeks, Have been breast feeding exclusively up untill 3 days ago when at my wits end with colic! i invested in some lactose free milk (tried everything else, infacoll and the usual and osteopathy Thats another thread!)
And today she has been a different baby im still breast feeding in morn x2 and evening but day feeds formula she has been so much less grumpy and not screamed at all today hopefully cracked it.
you all seem to have some routine going, but im finding it difficult esp with 3 yr old and on my own too.

hewlettsdaughter · 16/08/2004 22:10

Hi peachypie, I don't really have a routine going - although I will have to be more organised come Oct, when I am due back at work. Glad you had a better day today (colic's horrible isn't it).
