Well there had to be one...
Thought I might as well start it at Fennels suggestion.
You have all read enough from me how about you?

Oh dolbear sounds like you are having a hard time of it at the mo. I really hope things get better for you.

I haven't been getting bored at home - especially when dd is around I don't even get a chance to check on MN ! When I do get free time or am on my own, usually bf ds, I then get onto MN. Most of my days seem to be drowning in a pile of never ending laundry.

Metrobaby · 16/07/2004 13:05

mrsD - know what you about the weather. The one thing I was looking forward to whilst being off on mat leave was sitting out in the garden, enjoying the sunshine. Oh well !

Metrobaby · 17/07/2004 00:46

When is everyone thinking of going back to work then?? I can't bear the thought of it. I'm really enjoying my time at home with ds and I'm shocked he's already almost 3 month now. Time seems to have flown past

I'm due back 3 Oct - don't want to go but have to...

LucyJones · 17/07/2004 15:12

The weather is terrible isn't it?! We've got thunder and lightning in Kent today - lovley I'm back at work on 6th September Only P-T though, one week Mondays and Wednesdays, next week Mon,Wed and Sat. Wednesdays will be to 6pm and the rest til 5pm so wont see much of ds on Wednesdays but at least I know I've got all day Friday with him. I'm bored at home but that's probably because I've only got ds, no toddlers to enteetain like some of you! Don't really know anything about the mechanics of nurserys so hoping the pre-sessions will enlighten me. Like do I just give them a tin of formula and they make it up? Hope everyone is ok Dot1 - ds mainly goes til 6am but does have the occasional 4am day when we try and leave him. He's 16 weeks on Thursday, I want him to go as long as poss before weaning so it's easier but we'll see. Let us know how you get on when you start

LucyJones · 17/07/2004 15:13

whoops, that should be all day Thursday with him.

hewlettsdaughter · 17/07/2004 15:54

Sometime in Oct - but haven't sorted out any childcare yet (think I'm in denial... )

Glad you enjoyed your holiday dot

Fennel · 17/07/2004 20:29

dot - where was it that was sunny? nowhere near here that's for sure.

I was feeling a bit ambivalent about going back to work but today's highlights have been cleaning the kitchen and watching (and scarily, enjoying) neighbours. I also worried myself by composing a shopping list of "chocolate, wine, cake" and nothing else. it's not that I need to work to feel good but I do need to get out more and not just to baby things. am now eating said cake and choc and about to crack open the wine...

hewlettsdaughter · 17/07/2004 20:31

Can I come round Fennel?

dot1 · 18/07/2004 14:27

When ds1 went to a childminder we made up his bottles and she kept them in the fridge and then warmed them up.

ds2 woke up at 3.30am today...grrrr...! He's also downing his 8oz bottles and then needing more - usually a 10 minute breastfeed. I'm soooooo near to weaning him, but horribly aware he's only 14 1/2 weeks... I've said to dp that if he wakes up much earlier and goes back to waking twice in the night, i.e. 2am and 5am, that's it, he's getting solids!! He's like a little shark now - biting and chewing everything and going bonkers - probably a developmental stage, but makes me think he's starving..!

Chuffed · 19/07/2004 13:03

dot1 dd is doing this as well, went from almost all nighters to waking twice a night. I think it is a bit of a developmental thing.
All the chewing and chomping I am putting down to maybe teething although the HV doesn't think so. It will apparently settle down.

dot1 · 19/07/2004 21:18

I think I'm going to start ds2 on baby rice this Friday - can't before then because we're out and about at lunchtimes. Today he had a 9oz bottle and still cried afterwards and took quite a big breastfeed aswell... So I'm going to try a bit of baby rice after his lunchtime bottle to see if it settles him a bit - he'll be 15 weeks on Friday - so shoot me..!

dolbear · 20/07/2004 10:02

Good on you Dot1 - you know your baby best after all. Let us know how he enjoys his baby rice

Fennel · 20/07/2004 20:09

dolbear how is yr back these days? I have had a bad back too this week - having babies is not good for backs I guess.

can't understand this thread now it's all muddled up.

dot I would be interested in meeting up (for chocolate binge?) tho have never met a mumsnetter IRL - am not sure I am anything like my mumsnet persona!

Chuffed · 21/07/2004 10:15

dot1 is your ds waking up in the night hungry as well? dd is now waking at least twice a night and is just starving.
I am really wanting to hold off giving any solids but if she is sleeping worse than she did at 6 weeks old.
Let me know how it goes. My mum said we started on a spoon of natural yoghurt at 17wks but I think we were both a bit heavier than dd is now - she was 5.88kg last Wed so not all that heavy really for weaning.

kbaby · 21/07/2004 10:49

hello,
sorry for crashing your thread. I normally belong to the May thread. I sort've remember that one of you had a baby who didnt like to be put down. Is that right? If so how is it now going? im looking for hope, as DD wont be put down to sleep and im hoping it will get better soon.
sorry again
bye

Fennel · 21/07/2004 13:09

Mrs D you will have to go and be the expert on the May thread they need you to give them hope!

dot1 · 21/07/2004 13:59

Fennel - fab idea - we do could do coffee and cakes somewhere in town? Let me know if you know of a good cafe in Manchester - can't remember if there's one in Borders? I haven't met a Mumsnetter either - we'll be fine though! I'm free pretty much any day before September...!

Chuffed - ds is just over 14lbs now - I think that's about 6.3kg (still working in old money...), and yes, he's waking up earlier than he did do - he woke up at 12.30am last night but I have to admit I ignored him (that's WAY too early!) and he went back off after about 20 minutes of moaning - not properly crying! Then it was 4.30am - used to be 6am in the good old days...!

I think I'm going to be v. disappointed on Friday, as I know in reality a teaspoon of baby rice probably isn't going to make a lot of difference in the beginning! But he's sooooo hungry particularly in the middle of the day at the moment - 9oz + breastfeed for lunch every day now!

Fennel · 21/07/2004 18:23

dot. the next couple of thursdays and fridays are good for me, then we are away for two weeks. but am hampered by having dd1 and sometimes dd2 as well as dd3 now it's the school holidays. I feel rather overwhelmed by them all in fact, lovely though they are it's a bit much.
so it would have to be somewhere quite child friendly I'm afraid. if sunny how about a park, there's one with playground in Heaton moor though I don't know its name, or didsbury park with playground, or Fletcher moss in didsbury which has outdoor cafe.

dolbear · 21/07/2004 20:22

hello peeps , please let me know how the babe rice goes ! ds 15.15lbs now also work in old money 7. something kilos amd is v hungry all the time ! bless had jabs today so not v imopressed !!
Fennel back is same as ta v mucho for the thought ! pins and needles have gone now though , have been ref to the physyo so hoping to learn some exersises to impove situ , anything interesting comes up will pass it on

MrsDoolittle · 22/07/2004 00:58

Hello you!
I should have known that if I've been thinking about weaning you girls are already onto it!!!!!
Last week I developed a stinking cold and dd seemed to be struggling to get enough feed. I assumed my milk had run down because of my cold. She was so upset the other morning (she had woken twice during the night) I trudged out to Tescos early and bought a carton of formula, despite heavy reluctance. Well it did the trick and she only woke once last night.
Dh and I were discussing whether it would be better to give her some banana instead of formula, I said I would give it some thought but I really did want to feed her exclusively for six months. I guess I may not be being realistic.
Thankfully dd never did get the cold and mine seems to be recovering. I guess I will find out soon enough if she gets through tonight.

OP posts:
Chuffed · 22/07/2004 08:46

dd got some yoghurt last night and it didn't make any difference.
I really wanted to breastfeed for the 6 months and especially with a holiday to the red sea in September it will be so much easier to not have to worry about sterilising and food.
She is probably about 13pounds now - gets measured tomorrow with the last set of jabs.

dolbear · 22/07/2004 11:21

ooo banana ! when are we allowed to start with that ? is 12 wks too early ?
lt ds suck the cheese and onion flavour off my fingers yesterday , did not go down well
