I do have a meeting with a careers advisor at my current uni tommo so I might have more info for us after it Smile

MikeTheShite · 17/11/2014 16:22

Am I mad to be considering dropping out of my current degree to do this?

Interested in this thread?

You wouldn't be mad to stop getting yourself into debt if you aren't interested in that degree.

If you didnt get into nursing this year, would you regret not continuing the current degree? And would you apply for nursing again next year?

I think I'd be really annoyed at myself yes.
I think the problem is I don't want to go back to being a SAHM I'm just not cut out for it and that terrifies me!

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 17/11/2014 17:33

Then stick with it, do you earn UCAS points if you complete a year? Or do you have to complete the degree to earn the points?

OP posts:
MikeTheShite · 17/11/2014 18:14

Oooo I'm not sure I shall check.

Also student finance have advised to complete my first year whilst applying for nursing Smile

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 17/11/2014 18:33

I would hazard a guess that you have to pay for that year whether you drop out of complete that first year so it would benefit to continue.

Plus, nursing and social work cross over, you may find yourself a step ahead with some of the work and research if you have already done a year in SW.

I think your definitely right there!
I'm guessing it's a no brainier then?

MikeTheShite · 17/11/2014 19:34

Lump- did you have to do essays etc for your brighton interview as I had to do them for my current course interview.
4 x 1000 words Confused

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 17/11/2014 20:39

4 x 1000 words for your uni interview?! My goodness thats a tall order!!

I haven't had my brighton interview for nursing yet but thats a maths test and essay (15 mins to do 300 words) and the rest is questions etc

For my original degree there was no interview at all.

Hi all I've just seen this. I'm applying for Midwifery. Got an interview next week at Hertfordshire and had a test at Middlesex the other week. Anyone else applying for Midwifery?

MikeTheShite · 18/11/2014 18:21

Good luck Chuck!

Yes it was set over Christmas last year too, set on the 12th due in for the 5th jan.

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 18/11/2014 20:19

An so you got to do the essays at home? That's a bit better. But still, hard if you have been out of education for a few years.

When you apply for Brighton what will you apply for Mike did you decide if you would apply for one or more?

Chuck loads of luck to you, I hope fellow midwifery applicants come along soon!

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 18/11/2014 20:24

Has anyone on here done the first steps to nursing 12 week course?

Have been speaking to my lecturer about my uni application and he said it as viewed as the equivalent of another Scottish Higher.

The uni I'm applying to all require 3 Highers at B, C, C (I have only 1 B in English) or an HNC in Health or Social Care (which is what I'm studying just now).

I've applied to do Higher Human Biology as an online course with the support of my Social Care lecturer who also taught human biology in the past but I wondered if it was worth doing the first steps to nursing as an evening class on top of this? From what I can see it seems to concentrate on written communication and report writing rather than anything specific to nursing so not really sureif it's worth me committing 3 hours a week to (I'm already at college two days, work placement two days, and I dedicate a day and abit to biology). The logistics with time and travel to get to the course would be complicated and I'm wondering how much it's really worth to someone who's strength is in written communication (Disclaimer- that may not be evident on here because my phone doesn't like me Grin)

Mike glad to see things are moving forward for you and that you've been able to make some decisions

Chuck Hello and best of luck with your interviews, hope some midwives appear soon for a chat Smile

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 20/11/2014 13:59

Redabuttonhole (when I read your username, I think of a bum hole. I need to bleach my mind, clearly its in the gutter) I didn't want your message to keep going unanswered, but I just don't know the answer to your question. I do know though, that the people in admissions have been continuously helpful to me every time Ive called over the last year.
