Dd has a Nasty nappy rash

Dd is 2 and has a really sore bottom. Every nappy change is a big trauma with screaming and clamping legs shut etc. I think she's teething - molar issues! - which is making it worse. She is also having 3 poos a day, which tend to be loose and her skin seems to react as soon as it comes into contact with any poo.

Questions:

  1. What could be causing it?
  2. how to help it?

I'm off to do stories and bedtime but will be back!

TIA

teething can cause runny poos
try metanium, it's magical stuff, spread on thinly - a little goes a long way!

My dd used to suffer with nappy rash so I can sympathise. We used metanium too. Tepid water to clean her bottom and then metanium on.

metanium mixed with sudocrem is brilliant and a little easier to clean off if needed.

Another thing I have discovered here in Aus - not sure if you can get it inthe UK - pawpaw ointment - amazing. Perhaps health food shops - get it in chemists here.

second warm water and a washer to clean bottom.

Thanks for your replies. I'll get my hands on some metanium - I'd never heard of it. I use bepanthen just now and it's usually good, but we are going through it like it's going out of fashion without that much difference. Me and dh were just drained tonight - she must've done a poo in the car on the way home and I took her straight up to get her nappy off - poor wee soul was beside herself and it took both of us to hold her down and clean her. V distressing for all of us. It's been sore for a few days now so she is getting herself all wound up before we even go near her - she's got the fear! I just hope she'll be ready for toilet training soon.

another metanium addict here, its like wet chalk, get a tiny bit and dot it about then pat to spread. It will help really quickly, it forms a kind of second skin and is espcially good if the skin is broken. Hope she's better soon.

def use metanium - the BEST nappy cream out there.
when my dd1 was teething and got a really bad bum, i found the only thing that really worked was to take the nappy off and leave it uncovered (bit messy...yuk) that cleared the rash up faster than anything.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 05/10/2006 20:54

if it doesnt clean up with the metanium, our docs prescribed canestan cream - worked within hours on becky when bepanthen wasnt doing the job.

Where do you get metanium from?

DarrellSHivers · 09/10/2006 19:43

metanium is the best I reckon and can be bought from the chemist or can be prescribed by your GP
