Starting Potty Training - Some Advice Needed PLEASE!

My dd is 2.8 years and still in nappies. She can tell me when she needs changing, will sit on the toilet with/without a nappy, can pull her trousers up and down although not very easily, so I think that she might be ready to begin potty training.

What do you think and how would you recommend starting?

Thanks

Follow the advice of the Cod and take off the nappy altogether and go cold turkey....

Below my questions to Cod last spring and her answers which kind of outlines the details

  1. Sit DS (24 months) down and explain that as we're a big boy now we will be wearing pants from today and using the potty of toilet (yes?)
  2. I've got the potty on stand-by and carry it in to each room as we move round house, and millions of pairs of pants with cars on
  3. I'm putting tracky bottoms on him for easy up and downage (yes?)
  4. I've got chocolate buttons on stand-by but I bet he starts to make a fuss about wanting one before we've finished the conversation in point 1!
  5. Then I start to ask him every 15-20 mins if he wants to use the potty (yes?)
  6. When he has an accidents I say 'never mind darling - next time you think you want a poo or peepee see if you can sit on the potty and I'll give you a choc button (yes?)
  7. I don't go anywhere very far away
  8. Lunchtime nap I ask him if he wants to use potty then when he says no I resist using nappy and put him to bed (yes?)
  9. So for a day I'm cleaning up and changing and DS is starting to think that it's a hassle having to get wet and dirty and keep getting changed (yes?)
  10. I keep going every day until he eventually uses potty whereupon I celebrate and reward exstatically
10. I keep going and going accepting that no progress may be being made THEN

Day 8 and DS goes back to nursery....my understanding is they use nappies even during potty training and I can see why but I HAVE to say - would you mind terribly if he just wears pants and I've brought lots of changes of outfits (yes?)

Worked for us Loopyloo....Goodluck.

Thanks Robin.

That was what I was thinking of doing with dd. I don't agree with pull ups etc so thought just knickers would be the way forward.

Thanks for you tips (and thanks to Cod too!)
