Hi, I have ds who was 2 in July, when and how should I potty train? We postphoned until after DS2 was born (now 3 mths) but would like to start soon, but how do you know when is the right time, and how to do it?

Thanks

I wish I had listened to other more experienced mums who said 'as late as you can leave it' I started at 2.4 with ds and he was dry for quite a long time, now completely regressed (he is 2.8)and wetting everywhere unless you take him regularly. We were starting to get there with poo but that has completely gone backwards too - have HV round on Thurs hope she has some useful advice......
Signs for when they are ready: telling you they need a wee or a poo and/or that they've done one, showing they know when they need to go, being able to pull their trousers/pants up and down, sitting happily on the potty for a while even if just in nappy or clothes and not using it as a toy ........ that sort of thing. My friends who've waited until nearer age 3 have done it all in a week. Given the amount of accidents when they start Summer is easier but that isn't always when your child is ready obviously.

My dd was 2 last week and she has been out of nappies for 3 months and hardly any accidents at all even when starting play school shes been great. She is great with poos too, weent on a 2 hour bus trip and took the potty and we had to stop the bus so she could get off and hve a poo!
My dd trained herself she just kept taking her nappy off a kept weeing all over the floor. I really hope she doesnt regress like many have said they do if you do it too early. She showe me the signs i was not even thinking about starting until she was a few months past 2.
good luck what ever you decide but it can be done younger
