Anyone heard of sheets that strap (velcro?) babies to the bed?

That sounds like some kind of torture doesn't it?

My 5 month old startles and wriggles a lot in his sleep, which wakes him constantly. He was swaddled until 2 weeks ago, but is now rolling so it is no longer safe. I read on thread on here a while back about some sheets which strap around the baby to stop them wriggling and bashing themselves awake.

Does anyone know what they are? I can't find the thread I read or anything about them on internet search.

Hmm I know the people who do gro bags do toddler duvets that zip to the sheet but would be suitable for a 5 month old...

Only swaddle pods and I think at five months baby would be too big.

Yes. But seriously, you've got them let them move about. How else will they learn?

Your baby might be a tummy sleeper which should help the wriggling.

I do agree with you Iggly, but I am not sure what to do with him. The startling is more of an issue than the wriggling. Not sure if the sheet thing would have helped with that, but I just wanted to have a look at them to see.

I suppose I will just have to wait for him to outgrow the startling. Poor guy, he has been so tired from waking up all of the time. He has gone from being a champion sleeper to waking non-stop.

hi OP- I actually bought exactly what you mean for Dc who had terrible relux so had to sleep on an incline and not slide down- from a site called back in action- not sure if they still sell them though

I tried something like this. Baby still wriggled. Ended up underneath the mattress because when the baby wants to roll and has a mattress strapped on, that's what happens.

A sleeping bag will help. He's just got to get used to being able to move. If you do not disturb him further in re-settling him (ie stroking only, do not pick him up or talk to him) then it will probably only take 2-3weeks for things to settle down again.

Use gaffer tape. That'll keep the bugger still.

not quite the same fliss but we used to ducttape our first son into his sleeping bag so that he couldn't put his hand down his nappy onto his willy and accidently spread poo everywhere over himself and the sheets every single night.

Even that didn't work. God knows how but he still managed to get that little hand down there.

Put him on his tummy if he can roll both ways and lift his head? I did that with my second from 5 months and my first flipped onto his tummy himself.
There is a big sleep regression at 5 months so this could be it too

They grow out of the startling by 6 months ish so it should end naturally soon enough op. Both my babies have had a really strong startle reflex so I totally understand.

How long have you been trying without the swaddle?

Sorry, just reread the op... Two weeks without a swaddle and not improving is quite a long time... Humm... LoveToDream to a swaddle that you can remove the arms from... It's called a 5050 swaddle... Maybe that would help get to sleep and then remove the arms for safety....

Yep, they grow out of that drop reflex that wakes them up. Before you know it it will no longer be a problem. I vote for allowing your baby to wriggle.

Yes you can get them but I would be worried about what Fish says! I don't think it's a good idea. If he can roll try putting him down on his front. I would probably try the half-swaddle too though!

I loosely swaddled ds until he was about 6 months. He needed the secure feeling.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Embarrassed to say I have only just seen the last lot. I think we have made it through the startling situation but we are definitely in the thick of the regression. We have gone from bed at 6, with wake ups to bf at 10:30 and 3am, sometimes not even waking at 10:30 and going straight through to about 2am, to waking all through the night. He is generally now in bed with me from 1am, feeding off and on all night, which is the alternative to him being awake and chatting LOUDLY or crying. I really hope it passes soon. Will he ever go back to the way he was?

He is also waking up for the day from about 5am since the clocks changed. I know from reading MN threads that that isn't as bad as some but I still find it horrific.

The love to dream swaddle saved us for a while, and then when the startle stopped, he kept us awake all night flipping over and getting up on all fours ready to crawl. That was exhausting...
