9 weeks old and still not smiling

I know there isn't a 'norm' per say and that each child develops at his/her own rate, but every book/ website I go on says they should be smiling by 6 weeks.
Can someone please reassure me that children who start smiling this late still grow up to be healthy, happy children
Thanks

Yes I can Smile. Can remember having exactly the same concern with my DS. He's now a very happy, bright and popular 10 year old. Turned out it was his tongue tie making him grumpy when he was a baby.

bonzo77 · 27/10/2014 07:33

Was he early?

Izzy82 · 27/10/2014 08:09

No he was 2 days late

My DD frowned at me til 4 months. She is total opposite now. My DS was about 3 months.

Is his eyesight ok? What happens if you play with him and don't make sound, can he see you?

Izzy82 · 27/10/2014 20:35

I think his eye sight and hearing are fine.
Thanks for the reassurance that it's not just my son!

I know a few babies who haven't smiled until the 3 month mark. All perfectly fine!

My dd was a late smiler, now at 11 months she's a very happy smiley girl. Don't worry!
