At what age did you put your baby in their own room?

Hello all. Just curious really at what age other parents put baby to sleep in their own room? DD is 5 and a half weeks old, and whilst I plan on her being in our room to sleep for a while yet, I'm not sure I'm going to do it as long as the official 6 month guidance. She can be quite a noisy sleeper and I often wake up to her grunting etc (she's still asleep). Also I'd quite like some private space back for me and DH. Thoughts? x

I put mine in their own rooms as soon as we came home from hospital. They are all grown up now and I know the advice is different now
Ds 5 days old 1989
Dd 2 days old 1996

6 months, both DC.

Not worth the risk to me, also less far to walk for feeds at night.

20 months for DD. DS is 6 months now, no plans to move him in the next year or so!

8 weeks for DD. Yes, yes against all advice but right for this family.

KittyandTeal · 19/10/2014 07:41

2 yo and still spends half the night in our bed room!

DeadCert · 19/10/2014 07:41

8 weeks for DS in 2011. DD currently 12 weeks and move is imminent.

hollie84 · 19/10/2014 07:42

DS1 was 5 months. DS2 went in with his brother at 3 months so wasn't sleeping alone before we went to bed.

Cot death peaks between 2 and 4 months so you might want to factor that into decision making.

Just over 4 months...DS was SUCH a noisy sleeper. It was like trying to sleep next to a warthog. And I was hypersensitive to every snuffle. I still heard every noise on the monitor (which was on full blast) but I felt more able to tune in to what was/wasn't a noise that needed fed or attended to. It helped me sleep better and he did too. His travel cot was shaking as he flipped his legs around so his cot proved far more comfortable! Also I used to take him from our room to his room to feed him in order to not disturb my hubby so moving him reduced the time I was carrying him around the house!

Moving him early is the only piece of guidance that I didn't follow....but I did everything to minimise risk (grobag, room temp, EBF several times a night etc)

Good luck with your decision

Dd2 - 7 months - then spent another month sleeping on a camp bed in her room!
Dd1 - 2.5 months but was no room for a cot in our bedroom and she grew out of her moses basket.

TheTravellingLemon · 19/10/2014 08:07

singsongmama is basically me. I moved him at just over 4 months because I absolutely needed to sleep and I couldn't with him there. Also my DH can be a snorer and was waking him up in the night. I used one of those motion sensor mats also.

Only1scoop · 19/10/2014 08:08

Dd in

MaryWestmacott · 19/10/2014 08:08

DC1 - 8 weeks, he could'nt sleep in his moses basket and we didn't have room in our bedroom for his cot. Slept through from that point.

DC2 - settled in her room from around 3 months, but still (at 16 months) spends most nights in our room by 11pm

Cric · 19/10/2014 08:09

5 months. Same reason as above... She no longer fit in her Moses basket and we couldn't fit her cot in our room.

NoPinkPlease · 19/10/2014 08:09

First one 22 months, second one, 20 months (ish)

Tiredemma · 19/10/2014 08:10

DS1 one week
DS2 3 days
DD1 1 day

Only1scoop · 19/10/2014 08:11

Whoops ill try again....

Dd was in own room by about 14 weeks....still in Moses for a couple of weeks but placed in cot....

Jeggie · 19/10/2014 08:12

9m but prob won't do it so early this time round as it didn't help me sleep better, worse in fact. She wasn't too bothered, she knows how to make me come get her! Wink

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/10/2014 08:13

When she was sleeping through from 11-7. About 5 1/2 months (and tbh the 11pm wake up was sporadic).

AndThisIsTrue · 19/10/2014 08:13

Ds moved into his room at 6 months but I went with him in the spare bed as he was such a bad sleeper I couldn't be bothered to go back and forward several times a night. I still sleep in his room from about 3am at 18 months.

MrsLindor · 19/10/2014 08:17

i say this on all these threads, six months, DH is a paramedic and wouldn't have considered it even a day earlier.

BauerTime · 19/10/2014 08:18

4 months. I think we timed it just about right as any older and I think he would have started to become aware of being in with us and I reckon that would have made it harder to move him.

He didn't have a bedtime routine or get put in his room before we went to bed until 6m though. So 4-6m he was still only ever a few steps away with both doors open and monitor on.

Writerwannabe83 · 19/10/2014 10:21

My DS is almost 7 months and I have no plans to do it soon. He still wakes up a few times in the night so it's just more practical. I love having him in with me Smile

angelopal · 19/10/2014 10:26

6 months as wanted to follow the sids guidelines. We lost our first neonatally unexpectedly (not sids but medical reason) so did not want to take any risks or do anything I would regret if the worse did happen again.

trilbydoll · 19/10/2014 12:25

10mo - she was still waking in the night several times, didn't seem any point in having to walk further! She still comes in with us at 18mo.

Artandco · 19/10/2014 12:29

Ds's are 3 and 4 years. They still sleep in our room :)
