My 1st homemade nappy

I made my 1st nappy today, it turned out bigger than I thought it would bit it's with bamboo so I can always fold it down at the front. I'm quite pleased with it really, now I'll have to tweak the pattern I made to make it slightly smaller. DD wants me to make them for her teddybears now. Dying to try it on ds when it's dry.

How have you made a nappy with bamboo? I'm intrigued.

No I'm not going to make it into a business, it's just that I love the bamboo nappies and they're quite expensive when you need loads of them as they take so long to dry. I bought the fabric from a nappy manufacturer, they even told me how many nappies I should get out of the 2 metres I bought, they were really helpful in fact. I did a search on how to make nappies and someone had photos and exactly how she did it so I kinda followed what she did, hers was with loads of different layers and a soaker on the inside which I didnt need so I just did what I thought was ok. It is quite big on ds so the next one I'll make slightly smaller. I'll try and insert the link to the instructions.

Well done you! More people should make their own instead of paying those ridiculous prices for things which are, after all, only there to collect poo! I have also made my own nappies, I started with baby number one's second size, then made another stack when my second baby arrived 16 months later. I designed them myself and they are a cross between mother ease and tots bots. Also, as I have two large boys I made them longer than most bought large size nappies. My younger one has been wearing them as a birth to potty. I made them from cutting up all the flat nappies I bought but couldn't be doing with as they just don't work under boys clothes. They look soooo cute and fluffy! As they are terry they are good with a nippa, even DH thinks they are great and is quite happy to change a nappy! Plus I think making your own is the ONLY way to really save money using washables as they are so expensive to buy. There are a ton of US websites and eshops dedicated to supplies and patterns for home made nappies. People keep asking why don't I make them for a business and my answer is - I made nappies to save money so I can stay off work for longer, not so I can set up a sweat shop in my kitchen!
