Probably a stupid question

You may all think me an idiot for asking this!
PFB DD is due to go to a first birthday party tomorrow (and the first one she will ever go to). Last night and today she is showing signs of a cold (another first). She isn't too poorly with it, just a snotty nose and clingy. Didn't sleep well last night. If she is still fairly well tomorrow, should I still take her? Or should she stay away regardless? Obviously if she is worse she will stay home, but then that raises the question of whether I still go!

First of all, it's nt a stupid question, many of us will have had a similar dilemma at some stage. It's disappointing for you that little one is developing a cold when she has her first party to attend.
I have a little one aged 2 myself. I would suggest dosing her for a cold as you normally do tonight and see how she is tomorrow before deciding on whether to go or not. She may have another difficult night which might then make her a bit tired during the day tomorrow. I remember my little one needing longer day naps at 1 year old when she had a cold. She may, like us older ones, feel a bit better tomorrow! You could prewarn your friends who are hosting the party that little one has a cold and say you may or may not be there and she how she responds. So many little ones have colds at this stage that it may be able to go if only for part of the party?

Shock you have got to a year without having any colds before now? Wow.

Anyway, I wouldn't take her if she is miserable tomorrow as you'll all have a horrid time, but I probably wouldn't stay away on infection grounds - the party guests are 1 year olds not newborns and there will probably be at least one or two others with colds even if the symptoms aren't showing yet. Only exception is if you know someone with a weak immune system will be there but assume not.

Just to clarify, DD is 3 months. Friends DD is a year old - it is her party. Not sure on ages of all children invited.
I told friend, she said she still wants me to go.

If she's 3 months she won't be that aware either way, so I would decide based on how able you feel to cope with lots of kids if you have another bad night! hope she feels better soon, it's rotten when they're ill that young.

Ah got it. Rest of my post still applies - I'd decide based on how your dd is doing.

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 28/09/2014 08:48

Should have put age in original post! Sorry.
DD slept fairly well and while still coldy is a bit better. Have spoken to my friend and we are still going.
Thanks for the responses! And thanks for not calling me stupid.
