Anyone use protopics for eczema

So we are finally moving onto protopics after exhausting all other options with our 11 month old. It has been a long hard road to get us to this point. He was prescribed them months ago but I couldn't bring myself to use them so young especially in the summer. My dermatologist has finally convinced me to start them as he has been on steroids for such a long time with very little break.
I can't find anything much positive on the internet about them but it would be nice to meet someone, anyone, who has positive experience of them.

We used them with DS2 when he was about 18 months. (now nearly 6y). He had a patch of eczema on his cheek, it used to regularly get infected and oozy and he scratched it until it bled.

We tried various steroids which worked temporarily but then a couple of days later it came back. So finally we were given protopic cream. WOW! In a week, it was gone. We continued using them for another 2 weeks, then stopped for a week and a pink patch appeared again so we started using them again for another 2 weeks. Then we stopped again, and that was it. No more problems - ever. It had been there on and off for almost a year and then it was gone.

I was wary since the instructions say that it wasn't tested for under 2s, but it was fine. Long term steroids aren't good for you at all - especially if they don't work!

Give it a try. Good luck. Smile

Thanks for such a quick reply Kirsty. It is so nice to hear something positive.
I was in tears in the Dr's surgery over it all. I am terrified I have already caused long term damage to his cheeks as he was infected for months and on fusiden H constantly until we managed to see someone who knew what they were doing. Once we cleared the infection we managed to keep relatively on top of it with dactacourt (after a few stronger steroids initially) Our Dr wanted us to move on to protopics but I stupidly went on google and became obsessed with him getting skin cancer so I couldn't bring my self to use them. Finally seeing sense - I just hope not to late to have any long term damage to his cheeks.

Also did you use them once or twice a day. I worry about using them in the morning.

We used them once a day, in the morning I think for the first week as the dermatologist said that would help highlight if it hurt him without him and us losing sleep. After that week we switched to once at nights.
