How many day time naps does your toddler have?

I am asking because almost 2yo DS still naps 2 times a day... about 45 mins to an hour in the morning and then 2-3 hours in the afternoon.
Should we think about dropping the morning nap to get him ready for pre-school?

Thanks :)

Ds2 is 3. He has one nap 2ish hours in afternoon. He had 2 until 20ish months

TurquoiseCat · 26/09/2014 13:20

DD (2 tomorrow shitfuckbollocks when did that happen! ) has one in the afternoon for around 2-3 hours.

She doesn't nap if we're out and about/she's at nursery, because her greatest fear is missing something!

I think it depends on whether he gets enough sleep at night? You could try cutting out the morning nap and shifting the afternoon one earlier if you wanted?

NoraRobertsismyguiltypleasure · 26/09/2014 13:25

My 22 month old has one nap. If we're at home it'll be an hour and a half after lunch. If we're out and about it's usually 40 mins in the car and slightly earlier to bed.

Ds is 2.5 he sleeps for about an hour and a half maximum after lunch, about 4 or 5 days a week. The other days he might get a shorter sleep in the car or buggy and an earlier night.

Figster · 26/09/2014 14:15

Ds is 2.8 he doesn't nap hasn't for about a year Hmm

neversleepagain · 26/09/2014 14:16

My twins are two on Monday and they have one nap in the afternoon for 2 hours. Dropped the morning nap at 14 months

Nocturne123 · 26/09/2014 14:17

Dd is 16mo and has one nap for 30mins-1 hour

tryingtocatchthewind · 26/09/2014 14:35

What time is his afternoon nap? Can you bring it forward a bit to loose the morning nap. My LO is 2:9 and still has 2 hours about 1pm-3pm

BendyMum15 · 26/09/2014 15:02

DD stopped napping at home at about 19 months but would nap at nursery. From about 6 months to when he dropped his nap I would have to take him for a walk in his pushchair otherwise he wouldn't go to sleep. He is now nearly 3 and will sometimes fall asleep in the car (usually about 2 mins away from where we are going!)
DD is 4 months and will only nap in sling or when being held, not even the walk in pram trick works!

readyforno2 · 26/09/2014 15:10

Ds was 2 in June and hasn't napped for about a month-6 weeks. He's an awful sleeper at night so wanted to see if this would help. It has Grin

Andcake · 26/09/2014 15:18

Jealous of those with nappers. Ds 2 if he naps - which takes a lot of effort- he will for 45 mins at 1.30 ish but then on days he naps won't go to sleep for the night until 10. But he needs the nap as looks tired. What bedtimes do your 2 he nappers have?

puddymuddles · 26/09/2014 15:23

Same as Andcake. DD2 is 20 months and hardly ever naps and if she does she goes to sleep for the night really late about 10pm. DD1 stopped napping about age 2 and was similar.

cabster · 26/09/2014 15:24

DD is 22 months and has a nap anywhere between 11am and 3pm. Usually an hour and a half, sometimes 2 hours, sometimes 30 minutes. It's rare that she'll have a second nap, or no nap at all.

ARGHtoAHHH · 26/09/2014 15:25

DS is two. He has a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and sleeps 12 hours at night.

I love him even more for this :)

Dd is 2.4 and naps from 1-3 and sleeps from about 8.30 to 6.30

Fairylea · 26/09/2014 15:49

Ds is 2.3 and naps 12.30-2.30 every day and sleeps 6.30-6.45. I have quite a constant routine with him - everyday we walk into town in the morning (15 -20 min walk) and go to the park and then home for lunch. All the walking and playing helps to tire him out for a nap! I do it everyday without fail... I'd rather make sure I have the two hours to enjoy the peace rather than do anything else!

flipflopsonfifthavenue · 26/09/2014 15:52

DS is 26mo and sleeps 1.5-2.5 hrs during the day, normally from 12pm. Don't let him sleep past 3pm though. He's normally asleep by 730/8pm at night. He sleeps about 10/11 hrs at night.

he's refused his afternoon nap twice in the last week, so we may be approaching the beginning of the end.... 6 weeks before DC2 is due. Bloody perfect :/

mumtosp · 27/09/2014 23:35

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies Smile
DS has already started skipping his morning naps on a few days so maybe it's time to completely drop it ...
Good to know what everyone else's routine... sounds like DS is the only one with 2 bps during the day Smile

2 naps... not 2 bps (whatever that is!)
