Can I still take her?

Hi all, firstly sorry that this is probably a daft question, but I am a first time mum and have never been in this situation before so not sure what is the best thing to do!

DD is 5 months old today. She has a bit of a sniffle, she's not ill at all (it's not a cold) but has a blocked and runny nose. Neither dh or I are ill. I'm due to be taking her to a baby group today - lots of similar aged babies and they share lots of dribbly toys and 'chat' to each other .

Am I still ok to take her? I'm not worried about her as such as she isn't ill, I'm just not sure what the other mums would think, and whether there is a chance dd could make the other babies ill. There is one mum there whose 10 month old has a number of health problems due to being born at 28 weeks, so I don't want to risk his health.

Any thoughts please? Thanks!

She does have a cold, not sure why you say she doesn't, unless it's hay fever of some sort.

But IME everyone takes their babies to baby groups when they've got colds, so it's not a problem. I'd take some wet wipes so if she sneezes/lets her nose run over the toys, you can give them a wipe - just courteous.

However, re: the mum with the 10 month old with health problems - I'd have a word with her at the beginning and ask if she'd like you to keep your DD away from her son (and be extra vigilant in wiping toys). That is thoughtful of you.

I guess I didn't think she has a cold as it's just the nose as far as I know - no sore throat or ears etc. She doesn't seem to feel ill (though I appreciate she can't tell me!) but she's not grizzly at all and she's sleeping well. I perhaps wrongly think of colds as affecting more than just the nose IYSWIM.

Well there are thousands of viruses that cause colds, and each one is different and affects different people in different ways. Runny nose sounds like a cold to me. Glad your DD isn't affected. My 3 older Dc all have colds at the moment, as do I, and they are making much more fuss over them than your DD!
