Alone in the house from 6pm to 9pm?

On an occasional basis?

Yes of course it's ok. Why wouldn't it be?

VivaLeBeaver · 22/09/2014 21:11

Yes. I leave dd sometimes in the evenings. As long as the child is ok with it and not scared.

OddFodd · 22/09/2014 21:12

Yes of course.

Yes.

You could have put the whole question in the thread title too.

DoristheCamel · 22/09/2014 21:13

I hope so. I did this last week.

Check that they are happy and will not be bored, have ground rules. Contact details for you and someone else (like a neighbour) who can be with them quickly if need be.

tippytappywriter · 22/09/2014 21:13

Yes. If they are happy to be on their own.

AnyFucker · 22/09/2014 21:14

yes, that is fine

minniemagoo · 22/09/2014 21:17

Tbh if you haven't left them at all before 3 hours as a start might be a bit much. Also it really does depend on the individual child, how will they react if someone calls to the door, do they know how to contact you etc.
My almost 11 year old has been left for increasing periods of time though irregular and by the time she is 13 I cant imagine I would have a problem with 3 hours regularly.

ThatBloodyWoman · 22/09/2014 21:18

Yes, so long as they're happy with it.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 22/09/2014 21:23

Yes. DD2 has done that since she was 10 or 11 due to an allergy to classical music.

DD1 sings, DH and I took turns going to concerts until she said for goodness sake both go, I'll be fine.

First time it over ran and the heating made it's usual bubbly noises and she was a bit nervous. Second time she was fine.

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2014 21:24

It's fine.

ShabbyCheek · 22/09/2014 21:26

Ok, thanks everyone. DH has just done this without telling me and I wasn't happy, but it seems IABU. Or possibly PFB.

I use a 14 year old babysitter occasionally. For similar hours if I'm away and DH is working late.

most kids round here are getting themselves to and from school alone by yr 6.

My 9 year old is very occasionally left alone for up to an hour while I pick up/drop off younger DC if she doesn't want to be dragged along.

Never having been left at 13 is a bit odd, IMO. DO you take her to school/hobbies still?

ShabbyCheek · 23/09/2014 18:59

Micah, my 13 yo has been to and from school alone since Yr 5, into central London alone since 12 and alone in the house for most of the day (with a friend) during school holidays.
6pm - 9pm when it is dark just felt different. But I am ok with it now.
6pm - 9pm
