Hi, just wondered when you managed to get your dd or ds to wipe their own bottom and sitting down?

DD has been doing it herself for a good year now (she is 4y5m). Can't remember exactly, but for a while. She was PTd at 24 months, and tried to encourage her from early on, and more and more so from being 3. To start with I gave her a supply of damped reusable wipes in the bathroom, as it was easier.

At about 3 yo but to be honest if she's not reminded she doesn't bother and she's 6 yo in a few weeks.

Hulababy, but how does she reach - to get down to the detail!- my dd can't balance and reach the toilet tissue or wipe all while sitting down. So the obvious dribble happens when she gets up and then reachs for the tissue?

Still working on it. DD1 (5) fine to do it, but still will be known to call "Mum! Please can you wipe my bottom!" DD2 (4) can be a little hit and miss.

Ah, she stands up to do it. Never really had any problems with that. But we don't have carpets, so could eaily wipe up if necessary. Even now I don't think she could manage sitting down - not until her feet touch the gorund I suspect.

Thanks, thought we had high toilets or something! just needed to check things are ok - call me paranoid mum over these small deatils!!

dd (4.5) will wipe for a pee, and will try after a poo, but isn't very good at it, so I tend to "check and tidy up" if I know she's done one!

DS used to shout FINISHED at top of voice until well over age of 5 regardless of who was in house. In end just refused to do it any more and left him to it - now my family of four get thru average 8 loo rolls in week - do they EAT it? FINISHED!

tissy · 25/09/2006 08:40

that IS a lot! We get through maybe 2 or 3 a fortnight (3 of us) and always have a laugh when y Mum comes to stay- she alone can get through a roll in a weekend!

admylin · 25/09/2006 08:58

My 2 always sat shouting finished, once when ds was 5 he stayed at home by himself while I took dd to her friends house, it took half an hour when I came back in he had been sitting on the loo the whole time waiting to get his bum wiped and crying nearly coz his leg had gone to sleep. That is when I drew the line and said they had to do it themselves and not be so dependant to the extent that it is ridiculous.

Beetroot · 25/09/2006 09:00

I just left him in the end.

He would shout 'Finnnissshhhhed' and I would go and wipe then one day I got bored and he did it himself.
