I think my Mirena coil is making me ill

Hello,

Im sorry if Im posting in the wrong place, I looked but couldn't find a place that was appropriate...

I have had my Mirena coil fitted 2 weeks ago and have been feeling so ill for the last week.

First I must say my body doesn't tolerate the pill. I have tried 7 different types and they all gave me every possible side effects you could think of. So after a few years persevering I moved on to condoms.
After having my first son I had the copper coil fitted. My periods are quite heavy without, but the Doctor assured me it would regulate it self. After 2 years of periods lasting 2 weeks I had it taken out to have my second baby.
Now it was time for me to go back to contraception I didn't want to go through the long periods/ feeling exhausted situation again so my doctor suggested the Mirena coil saying the hormone were very local, and only a tiny bit would get into my body.

Over the last week I have felt so dizzy ( everything goes black when I stand up for 2 seconds), so depressed but mostly I have extreme moments of nausea. The nausea hits me in the evening and its awful, it lasts a couple of hours, it is so strong and then the next day I wake up fine. I have 2 little boys I can't be feeling ill like this. Oh and no i can't be pregnant I had the coil fitted during my period.

Has anyone experienced the same thing?

Thank you xx

So sorry you are feeling like this. I've got the Mirena too but not experienced your symptoms.

Could it just be a coincidence and you have a bug? Is your blood pressure too low?

Thanks for responding..

When I'm not nauseous I feel really well. When I'm dizzy it lasts a few seconds then I'm fine.

I'm going to go back to the gynaecologist this week but I was wondering if anyone out there couldn't take the pill for the same reasons as me and were using the mirena..

Thanks a lot!

I've never had the coil but was on depo injection since DS was born 2.5 years ago and have just come off to ttc for the first week or 2 after my next was due I felt so ill had hot flashes, sore head, sickness and felt super tired and grumpy the GP said it was my body settling into it's new (natural) rhythm could you be having the same thing in reverse?

We think that all contraception does is stop us getting pregnant but it really does make massive differences to our bodies.
