Ultimate Team- FIFA

In my total negligence as a parent I only realised that Ultimate Team, which my son has been playing on the PS3 is linked to the internet and played against other users. I made him turn it off and tears ensued (he's 9). I have tried to find info on the internet about how it works and whether there are safety risks but can't find anything. Does anyone know? Is he just playing against others but is safe because they can't talk to him (either via audio or typing?) or is it risky? Can he wrack up costs?

Many thanks for your help.

I have played ultimate team since it was first available on madden and am almost certain that it runs exactly the same way as fifa. 1. Yes other people will be able to talk to him but somewhere in the Ps3s privacy settings there should be something which blocks people who are not on his friends list from communicating with him. 2. no I would not consider it risky, unless he tells them there is no way that people could find out where he lives etc. but again I am sure there is some form of parental setting that blocks him from communicating with other people just in case you are worried.3. Yes if your credit card is loaded onto the PS3 he could very easily rack up huge charges, Ultimate team is EA's (fifa's developer) biggest cash cow and the whole system is designed to get you to spend money however it is relatively easy to play without spending anything. As long as you make sure your card details aren't on his playstation then he cant spend anything, either that or password protect them so that your son can only purchase things with your approval.
nb. As I don''t own a PS3 I am not sure whether this will apply but it may be that you require your own account to set the blocks on his, if it is I highly recommend you do it as this will allowyou to have greater control over what your son does online
