How to deal with tantrums

Advice needed please on the best way to deal with tantrums!

Although I already have a dd (4) she seems to have missed out tantrums totally - didn't realise how lucky I was until now!

Ds is one and prone to the odd tantrum normally about the end of food or if I'm out of sight.

I don't want to set myself up for a fall when they really kick in so would appreciate some advice on how you deal with them.
